Final AP Poll has Gophs at #30; Kirk Kenney is the brightest college football mind in America! 27th in coaches poll.

MI 3, OSU 4, PSU 7, IA 34, PU 35, MD 37, IL 39....UNC #32.

All four losses by Gophs to teams that show up in poll. No wins over teams in poll.

Duke (9-4) goes from out of the poll to #26 by beating overranked UCF in Military Bowl...no wins over teams in poll...losses to KU, GaTech, #32 UNC, #22 Pitt.

Air Force goes from unranked to #28, mostly because not many 10-3 teams...best win was in Armed Services Bowl versus 6-7 Baylor?...losses to Wyoming, Utah State, Boise State

Iowa beat us head-to-head in our home and easily won a higher-level bowl game against a SEC team, but they finish 4 spots below us.

Much tougher schedule.

Yeah and they lost to Nebraska 4-8 and Iowa state 4-8

If they beat those two bad teams they’re west champs and probably about 14th

Syracuse would probably be favored against Kentucky if Kentucky didn’t have their QB like they didn’t in the bowl game. Probably a pick ‘em with both teams at full strength

Iowa State loss is absolutely irrelevant, but Nebraska loss is what it was. That's what actually kept them from being West champs and put them lower.

Not a single human ever considers wins/losses in the first week or two when deciding if a team is #34 or #32.

Every single human considers the number in the loss column when ranking teams.
There are 2 5 loss team in the final AP Poll

There are 8 4 loss teams in the final poll.

You're talking top 25.

I'm talking about 26-35, where Gophers and Iowa are.

Are you aware of how teams are rated in the top 26-35?
Do you know how the poll works?

The reason the gophers are higher than Iowa is because more people put 4 loss Minnesota in their top 25 than people put 5 loss Iowa in their top 25

Not a single person put either team as rated 26-35

Which is silly and shows how feeble and arbitrary humans are at ranking teams after you get outside the top 10-15 or so.

So if Iowa would've played Western Illinois instead of Iowa State, that would've made them #29? :sneaky:

That would be against big ten policy. But yeah, if they schedule a bad like 4-8 type team and won, they’d be rated higher yes.

That’s how it works inside the top 10-15 too.

There is 1 2 loss team ahead of 1 loss Michigan
There is 1 4 loss team ahead of 3 loss Florida state

Are you just following polls for the first time this year?

That would be against big ten policy.
Even better then, swap out Iowa State for New Mexico State. :sneaky:

Or Colorado! So you can still say you played a "P5" team

Fine, not disagreeing that that is how it works.

I only ever called it out.

The irony is they did schedule a Colorado type team.
Colorado has 1 power 5 win
Had Iowa beaten Iowa state, Iowa state also would’ve had 1 power 5 win

Not even close.

Playing Colorado at home = playing NM St at home
Playing Iowa St at Ames, early in the year = playing Kansas in Lawrence, early in the year

Just because a team didn't finish the year anywhere near top 25, doesn't mean that they weren't playing like a top 25 team earlier in the year.

Also, that's not irony. It's just coincidence.

You can call a team that’s 4-8 with two power 5 wins a top 25 type team if you want.

You must be a Nebraska fan lol

Now that I think about it, it is pretty crazy that Iowa isn’t a top 15 team with their two high quality losses against Nebraska and Iowa state. Two top 20 type opponents. Almost beat both of them!

Not going to wade into the pissing match about where teams should or should not be ranked in relation to us.

As for the Gophers, 30 feels about right. Not a top 25 team but not far off either.
That’s not even what this is about.
MPLSgopher doesn’t believe voters take into account wins and losses when they rank teams. He is baffled

They did beat a depleted Kentucky team without it's QB, yes

Damn. #27 in the AFCA Coaches Poll. I was hoping they could sneak in front of Fresno or Pitt (Texas unlikely).

Gophers are properly ranked and the poll shows that more voters think they are better than some of the teams they lost to. Voters think MN was the 4th best team in the B1G this year.

However, TCU should not be #2. They are not better than MI, tOSU, and Alabama. They upset MI, a better team. However, many votes just vote them #2 because that is how they finished in the bracket. No chance 47 voters actually think TCU is the 2nd best team.

Poll voters are allowed to pick their top 25's using any whim they want.

Not a single one who kept Iowa off their ballot did so because they lost to Iowa State early in the year.

#facts
