ROAD TO SELECTION SUNDAY, MN – Now past the halfway point of the regular season, there are 18 new teams in this week’s Field of 68 projection. Among those are five new at-large invitees, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin.
Make special note of the “Last 4 In”. There are a couple of surprises there, most notably NET #20 Iowa. This week those spots were saved mostly for teams with NET rankings safe for at-large inclusion, but who for the most part “haven’t really beat anybody”, so to speak.
The quartet of Iowa (0), Kentucky (1), New Mexico (0), and Ohio State (0) have combined to beat one opponent in the field with a NET ranking of #100 or better (Kentucky over #26 Saint John’s). At some point these teams need to beat tournament-caliber competition.
Automatic qualifiers in multiple-bid conferences (noted with an *) hold the best conference record or, in the event of a tie, best NET ranking (in parentheses).
