How has Maturi brought down the hockey program? They have a state of the art facility. They bring in one of the top recruiting classes every year. It's not Maturi's fault they aren't playing up to their abilities.

Joel has made mistakes, no doubt about it. But I understand that he is not going to be fired. There's little point to be constantly attacking him.

I posted this on the other thread, and thought I might post it here also as this is kind of the same topic. Adam Kelly thought coaches wouldn't come here because of Joel, IMO, they may have said no because of him. And him leaking information that coaches spoke with Maturi mid season.

Adam Kelly didn't just hurt Joel Maturi and the process by doing this. He most likely did cause some coaches to say no, but not for the reasons HE thinks. Say I am a prospective coach, and I have talked to the search firm or Joel about the job, before my season is over, without my AD's knowledge, and even agreed to the job despite all of this with the agreement with Joel being none of this comes out and we both talk about how there was no contact made.

Now, I see a former punter exposing people who talked to Joel mid season, (I doubt Joel flies to San Diego and surprises Hoke, I'm sure Hoke knew about it and just didn't tell anyone) Well now, Hoke looks bad for talking about taking a job mid season without telling his AD. And if I am that prospective coach (let's say Edsell) and I have this agreement with Maturi, well, I don't want to ruin my public image, image with my old school, image with my new fans, by being someone who does things in a "classless" way. I can't imagine an AD jumping at the chance to hire coaches with the reputation of negotiating deals during a season without informing anyone, or recruits wanting to play for a coach with that reputation.

I know it seems unlikely, but in college coaching where reputation is pretty much everything (ask Mike Leach) and no one wants their public perception ruined by Adam Kelly and therefore doesn't take the job, and starts talking about how they contacted me and I immediately told them no thanks! I swear I did! I wouldn't quit on me team! I would tell my AD if I were talking about other jobs, honest!

I am a tax payer in Minnesota, sick and tired of JM wasting MY Money!
I want Minnesota to succeed as I said, JM should step aside and get out of Jerry Kills way and let him coach.
JM is an Amateur playing in a big mans field. I am not sure why you all cannot see that he needs to go....
WIll it take the loss of Tubby Smith to leave before you wake up?

Then maybe you will wake up and realize the realities you refuse to see. Public outcry is all we have who disagree with his leadership to get this guy to take his gold watch and to retire into the sunset and go become the AD of the Johnny's or Tommy's...

You're setting up a false dichotomy. You're essentially saying that if you're not a fan of Save Gopher Football, you're a fan of Joel Maturi. In actuality, it is quite possible to hate both. I am evidence of that.

Just because we think the group are a bunch of idiots doesn't mean we support Maturi.

No one supports this idiotic group except you.

Just because I am anti joel maturi's leadership does not mean I am a member of Savegopherfootball. However, just like I am not a member of the TEA Party, if push came to shove I would side with them vs the current administration. I see what that group is trying to do and may not agree with their methods but the reasoning behind their cause is very defensible.
 


Rodent --my only point was that I may not agree with SGF and their antics, but I am in support of their cause--meaning, the only way to save gopher football is to get Joel M OUT OF THE WAY and let our new coach Jerry Kill have a fighting chance to succeed. That is it in a nutshell. It is not any more difficult than that. Look at the Facts of the state of the Athletic program, look at his past hires and decisions, and some can logically come to the conclusion that Maturi is over matched and has lost the confidence of some people (with numbers growing). The fact the Department is in shambles in indisputable and if Tubby leaves under Joel's watch, even people like you will not be able to defend him anymore.

I haven't defended Maturi. Or maybe the voices told you that I did? I may not think he is as bad as you think he is, but there's probably no one who is as bad as you think he is. I did say that he may have bumbled into making the right hire.
 



lets give Kill a good chance to succeed. My OPINION is that can only happen with Joel M out of the way. By the way, where is JM on the Tubby SMith extension and the promised BB practice facility? Since he won't talk to me anymore, your Friends in high places can get the answer.

Some of the players were wrong to do some of the things that were done. However- Bruininks is an absolute idiot to go public with his disdain. Your former players are your reference to the program. Former players can help or damage a program depending on how you treat them. Stupid move by Bruininks. He should have had a meeting with them to discuss how relations could be improved and then moved on. Good luck getting these guys to donate now.

and the facts are we cannot afford a BB Practice facility because the football program is in shambles and the NON-Reveue sports and contract buyouts are that giant sucking sound bleeding the department dry....I am sure Joel M is right on it making the tough decisions and taking care of business....oh wait...he has a women's rowing competition to attend to first....ooops shame on me for saying that mens basketball is more important to the University than womens rowing.....get real and face reality my friend

I would like to ask Adam Kelly a couple questions. How is contacting other Universities and informing them that our A.D. might contact their football coach helping the University of Minnesota or Joel Maturi? (and he has proven that he needs all the help he can get) What gives you the right to do this? Like Coach Kill says..the team does not belong to him..it belongs to the people of the State of Minnesota. Whats next Adam??...if you don't like a play call...will you run down to the sideline, rip off Kills headset and start calling plays too? Get in the boat and grab an oar or just get out of the boat. You don't have to try and sink the boat before you leave.

I wonder what Adam Kelly would say? ..hmmmmm.......maybe something like this....If Joel M was not participating in any of those legal but unethical activities, then the warnings would be unfounded and simply dismissed. Why did the San Diego newspapers make such a big deal about it?? Would you like someone coming after Tubby in February? Do you get sensitive when you get tested for drug screening? Or when you go through the airport screening process? Do you have something to hide? Do you understand that some people who have made major personal investments in the athletic department both as a player and via donations, might have some vested emotional interests in the program? What if the UOFM leadership ignores your concerns and does not offer a hearing to your Point of View? Is Adam paid by the University? How come JM who is employed by the U of M is NOT held accountable for his malfeasance? Do we have a right to be outraged? I am not sure what Adam would say or think but those are my thoughts......
