Ferentz gets an extension to 2020. That means the Fry-Ferentz era runs to nearly half a century. That's the kind of stability we haven't had with our revolving door coaches. But then, who in 1979 would have thought a middle-aged .500 coach from Southern Methodist would be such a big winner in the Big Ten?

Hayden Fry successfully integrated the SWC and made SMU competitive with likes of Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Oklahoma. He then went on to be immensely successful at North Texas State. He had multiple 9 and 10 win seasons there but was never able to go to a bowl game because of the "stigma" NTSU had. It should not have been surprising that he had success at the University of Iowa. Continuity in the coaching ranks is the reason Iowa has been better than Minnesota for 3 decades.

The ONLY bad news out of CFB this week is that Ferentz was extended to 2020. Let's hope he doesn't actually want to coach that long.
