Dribbles & Scribbles
-- Just spit-balling here. With Denver's move to the West Coast Conference next season, the Summit League will be down to eight members. A round-robin league slate would mean a shift from 16 to 14 games. Starting in 2026-27 teams can schedule 32 games (currently 31), so Summit coaches would need to schedule 18 non-conference games instead of (this season's) 15 if they stick with a standard round-robin slate. Scheduling 15 non-conference games is enough of a headache for Summit coaches, so I can only imagine how difficult it would be this summer to find three additional opponents.

My proposal to help alleviate non-conference scheduling problems for Summit coaches?

Play 20 league games + your 12 non-conference games. Play 6 league opponents three times, and the other one twice. Yes, this summer it would be a challenge for Summit coaches/administrators to come up with/agree upon an equitable league schedule, but it can be done. This season the realignment-ravaged seven-team WAC introduced a similar scheduling format with every member playing each team three times for an 18-game conference schedule. There is precedent. I'll even suggest each member's "two-play" opponents protecting all the Summit's Dakota rivalries:

Kansas City-North Dakota
North Dakota State-Omaha
Oral Roberts-South Dakota State
St. Thomas-South Dakota

Problem solved. MORE league games are better than less, especially when Summit League members are pretty much forced to play three non-Division I opponents in order to have enough home games to help pay the bills. If they so choose (I hope they wouldn't) coaches could still schedule the three empty automatic non-DI wins yet still have at minimum nine Division 1 non-conference opponents on their slate.
