This is the place for Gophers fans who want to discuss Saturday afternoon's national championship game between North Dakota State (13-1) and Sam Houston State (11-3). Game time is noon on ESPN 2. This is a rematch of last season's championship game, which North Dakota State won 17-6.

If you aren't interested in this game or the 30+ Minnesota high school graduates playing for one of the participants, please feel free to ignore this thread.
 

Pitt vs ole miss is on at the same time. to me that is one of the underrated bowl matchups.

If you aren't posting something related to University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football, please feel free to post this thread elsewhere. This is a forum dedicated exclusively to the discussion of University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football. You think Texas, A&M, Baylor, or Tech have a "Sam Houston St." thread on any of their football boards? *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# no! And even if they did, they'd at least be in the right state. NDAC JV football isn't even located in this state.

I will reluctantly be cheering for NDSU. NDSU is the team I hate to love. They by far have the most arrogant fans that I have seen in Minneapolis, but at the same time have reason for that based on their recent history with us. On the flip side, I love the program it self. They play hard. They use a lot of athletes that played Minnesota High Schools. How can you not cheer for them? Many of the kids dreamed of playing for the Gophers but just weren't viewed as Big 10 caliber athletes by us or any other school..

You can't say that, because you aren't comparing apples to apples. Minnesota has one D1 school. Texas has countless number of D1 and FCS schools. I bet you can go on the Baylor message board and there was a thread on Johnny Football. I bet Texas has had threads talking A&M and their move to the SEC. Does Texas or A&M care about Sam Houston St? Probably not, but I would bet my life it isn't exclusively Texas or A&M or whatever University you want to mention. The bottom line is NDSU is as close to a FCS school as Minnesota has right now and many players were close to being Gophers. It is fun to see them succeed and they obviously made a choice to play in a level that they could succeed in. Would Cole Jirik, Marcus Williams, the big LT, Grant Olson, etc have the same success at the U? We will never know, but it is still fun to see them succeed.

Texas A&M cared about Sam Houston State on November 17th when they beat them 47-28.

Jeez dpo. I usually have lots of respect for most of your posts, but this one just shows me that you possibly are still pissed about not bringing in the New Year with a BANG. Settle down, my friend, settle down.

This suggests we're leaving behind kids that could contribute to Gopher wins. Same to be said of some of the top players in the NSIC.

If so, then every other FBS coach in the country is losing out on these athletes.

+1 I just wonder if FanSinceTheFifties understands why that will always be the case. Here is a clue though, it the same reason why there are many undrafted players that make it to the NFL. It is also the same reason why several two star players have been All-Americans. It's is also why you really don't know how good your recruiting class is until several years later. Thank god, otherwise football wouldn't be the great sport it is.
 

I'm fine with gopherholes football forum having threads bcs related because those issues can potentially affect the U. Fcs football as a topic should be outside of the football thread. It doesn't relate to bcs football or he gophers. im fine with it in a different forum related to local schools etc, but its getting old. Ndsu has absolutely nothing to do with the big ten, bcs, or the U. We might as well have threads on the football forum regarding gun control and democrat vs republican. Someone needs to take control of these ridiculous threads
 

I guess I have a tendency to let GH Admin decide.

Good post, I agree! However, you and I both know the GH admins won't do a thing with this thread and any other useless thread that is not in the correct place.

no, i and others won't feel free to ignore yet another trollish, inappropriate, and completely unrelated to GOPHER FOOTBALL thread in a GOPHER FOOTBALL forum. just like the mods at the south dakota state fighting bizzun forum wouldn't ignore a gopher football related bowl thread if one had been posted in that forum. it would rightly be moved to their off-topic or news about other schools forums. why the same thing does not happen here is quite the mystery. perhaps our "anonymous" mod is one of these same posters. hmmm??

that the mods here continually allow these trollish threads to be posted in a GOPHER FOOTBALL forum is beyond pathetic. have some pride in what this forum is supposed to be and what it is not. it is certainly not a updates on south dakota state fighting bizzun forum.

While the posters that ONLY post about NDSU need to be banned, I don't understand why everyone gets upset at the very idea of NDSU on this board. We have threads about Arizona-Colorado basketball, the Cotton Bowl, etc. So, I don't see why their can't be a thread about the FCS Championship game.

I have no problem with someone putting an fcs football thread on local schools or whatever we have about other schools but Arizona-Colorado can affect the gophers, the cotton bowl pertains to bcs schools which we are. Fcs championship game has nothing to do with gopher athletics in any way ever. Ndsu is not bcs I don't know why people don't understand this? Cotton bowl, etc etc is on the gophers competitive level the fcs is not.

This thread definitely has a unique rhythm/beat to it and has a repetitive nature to it.
The message is a little unclear but yet perks interest.
The melody definitely has staying power.
A little hard to dance to, but not impossible.
Personally I would give this thread about a 92.

Yeah, but they're leaving through the University of Minnesota's BACKDOOR. That's the difference. Some/many of these players have D1 talent, even if lower-level D1. Because they play in the northland state of MN, often in outstate MN, they fly far under the radar of scouting services. It's excusable for the national scouting services to miss these kids. It's less excusable for the U to keep missing them, however.

Couldn't disagree more! There are very few outstate kids on ndsu's roster, many have academic issues and can't play at the U like Marcus Williams, its not missing if wisky and Iowa don't get them

I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape about it. There must be some hidden issues.
