Excluding this year. what was your favorite Gopher team from the past. I think either 2003 or 1999 team. What was your favorite.

If I can’t pick this one, ‘99. My freshman year and we were finally pretty good. If the Gophers don’t lose in OT to wisconsin mid-year that team would have backed into the Rose Bowl

1999 was fun because they over-achieved. 2003 was great but ultimately frustrating because of what could have been.

2014 with Maxx Williams and David Cobb. They had a chance to win the BIG West title against the Badgers the final game of the season and went to the first January 1st Bowl Game in forever (I was in Orlando for the game). I was at the Holiday bowl for the 2016 team but it didn't seem quite as positive. This year definitely beats 2016 and might beat 2014...I will let you know in a couple weeks!

Favorite was 2003. Loved the Barber Maroney 1-2 punch we had a couple years, 2003 being their biggest production year. Ton of fun watching the offense, with a lot of disappointment due to the defense. close second goes to the 2008 season we got to listen to “Weber to Decker for your Golden Gopher touchdown”, happened other seasons too but we got 7 of those in 2008. Also, loved 2015 with David Cobb and Maxx Williams when we got to the Citrus Bowl.

2003 was my #1, but I also like the 2014 and 2016 teams a lot. The 1999 team was pretty special as well and holding on late vs. Oregon in the Sun Bowl would have been great, but they fell short.

If the 2006 team had held up the 38-7 lead vs. Texas Tech in 2006 that would have would been on the list as well, as they were given up for dead, but beat MSU and Iowa to rise up.

1962: maybe the best defensive team since Bierman's golden years in the 1930s. With a nine game schedule, they blanked five opponents and held two others to one TD. It should have been three others, but a 9-7 lead over Wisconsin late in the 4th quarter was overturned by officials (specifically, an official named Jones) who called a roughing the passer penalty against Bobby Bell for what was not only a clean tackle, but a brilliant one that caused a pass to flutter almost straight up in the air where it was grabbed by a Minnesota lineman, sealing Wisconsin's doom. Coach Warmath went wild and was penalized for that and suddenly the Badgers were 30 yards closer to the end zone and scored, winning 14-9. Earlier in the game a TD by MN was cancelled by a "helping the runner" call, so the Gophers had to settle for a field goal - I'd never seen that penalty called anywhere before. So a 13-7 victory and the B10 title became a 9-14 loss and Wisconsin got the title and the Rose Bowl (where they lost to USC). But it was still a great Gopher team: Bell and Eller, Julian Hook, John Campbell, Jim Cairns (running back), Duane Blaska (QB), Jerry Jones. Tough as nails team that had a bad break, recognized by Sports Illustrated in their story on the game.

I've been a season ticket holder since moving to Minnesota at the end of 1998, so I was there for 1999 and 2003. My favorite team, though, is a year-an-a-half worth of teams. My Mom died suddenly in October 2013 and it was a hard time for me. That's when the Gophers went on a 4-game Big Ten winning streak - including a field-storming win over #21 Nebraska. That momentum carried through to the 2014 team on their way to a January bowl and a (missed) opportunity to end the season in the top-25. So the 2nd half of 2013 and 2014 are my favorite Gopher teams.
Go Gophers. Rah!

1977. I know...it probably doesn't pop out to many others. Marion Barber running over Bo's Michigan.

Agree w all these.

Loved that every play could’ve gone to the house w Maroney and Barber.
(Created max disappointment...)

But watching their version of running back U (similar to Cal) was amazing.

There have been LOTS of good teams thru the years

1977, they beat Michigan, believe they shut them out 16-0, beat UCLA and beat Washington. Very good defensive team, great linebackers, all three were drafted in the second round and played pro for several years, plus very good DL from Michigan, Keith Simon, at least I think so.

Could have been even better. Stoll wanted to redshirt Dungy in 1973, his freshman year. Injuries forced him to play (and helped them to 7-4). Had the 1977 team had a senior Dungy at qb, they would have won nine games.

I would have been six. I wish I had been more aware of college football before 1983.

1981. We beat the Badgers in the snow in the last game at Memorial Stadium.
