Ex-Gophers Coach Jerry Kill Says He's Still Searching For His Next Job In Football

I think it is best if he lets time pass by and continue the healing process taking care of his health. He looks pretty darn good and fit with color on his face.

But, I certainly would like to see him back in a capacity like Dan O'Brien's. He is an asset to the University and the BOR and others will welcome him back with open arms I am pretty sure.

He is an asset to the University for all that he's done to right the football program and get the Athletic Viollage started.

Dan O'Brien's job was much more stressful and labor intensive than the head coach's job. That is an indisputable fact.

Not a good fit for Kill.

It seems like many folks here lacked a real father figure and Kill filled the space.
He has a potential lethal disease if he does not take his meds and taking his meds did not allow him to function at the level he needed to.
So now he feels better and wants to do another shot at it?
Find some other place to have a pity party.

Coach Kill can't have it both ways. It's obvious that he struggles mightly with his health issues yet seems reluctant to give up what he can no longer do; a high pressure job. IMO, he should focus on being healthy and manage a life style that will allow him to maintain his health.

No doubt he misses the kids and trying to help them be the best they can be. He has made his impression. But others have taken over that role. There will be soon be a time when Jerry won't know the players like he does now.

Me thinks its time for Jerry to do a serious reality check and fade away.

I would expect the Athletic Department should have the right job for him that isn't football specific. Would love to have him promoting Gopher sports. He is a winner with medical issues. AD would appear to be too demanding on him although I think he puts much of the pressure on himself. A workaholic/successaholic.

By all reports the department offered him a job similar to what you describe and he turned it down. I am sure we will still get the occasional story about Kill during the offseason since he seems willing to keep putting his name out there and there isn't much else to write about right now. Hopefully when fall camp starts we won't hear much about him anymore and he will have moved on to whatever he is going to do next.

Like others, I respect what he did here, but he had to resign and he doesn't want the job the department has offered him so time for him and everyone else to move on. Some of the hero worship thrown his way by fans goes way over the top.

Kill did a great job for the U of M. He brought us back to respectability. Thanks, Mr. Kill for that. He never, however, brought us back to being good. He has a bigger than life personality and by all measures is a quality person in every way. If they want to bring him back a the chief fund raiser within the athletic department, then great.

Kill, however, says he's looking for a "football" job. It would not make any sense to give him one here. Claeys is now the face of football for us. Let's leave it that way...we've moved on from Jerry.

He never, however, brought us back to being good.

Define "good". The team was a half away from playing in the Big Ten championship in 2014 and finished over .500 in the Big Ten for the first time in 11 years. I don't think anyone would call it "great" or "excellent", but "good" seems more than fair for essentially finishing third in the conference. I don't know, maybe that's just me.

The chief fundraiser within the athletic department is the athletic director. He's not and won't be a candidate. I also can't for the life of me figure out where this meme of him being some sort of great fundraiser originated.

It comes from people not understanding how fund raising works. Jerry was probably a very useful part of a sales pitch.

Meeting Jerry Kill probably got a lot of people through the door to talk funding. But it is ridiculous to think that Kill set up the fundraising strategy or was searching out, finding and targeting possible donors. Instead he probably talked football with some rich people and then "asked" for support.

Pretty much same as every BCS head football coach- although Kill seems to have a personality that would work well in this situation.

Good points all. I guess the overarching theme is that it would be nice for people not to treat poorly founded speculative hearsay as truth and run with it, especially when they don't even understand the ramifications of what they're saying.

I like Good. I'll go with Good.
