Estime gone?

Why go to va tech? They play in a bad conference and have ugly unis.

Ugly unis? I love V-Techs unis! They have many different unis, and in terms of uniforms, they were Oregon before Oregon was Oregon. I guess were all entitled to our own opinion haha...

I sure hope he confirmed that he is getting an offer if he goes on that trip.

I realize VaTech has an impressive football program. However, Frank Beamer's record against top teams is pretty weak. When playing teams either in bowl games or teams ranked in the Top 25, he is 41-47. And Against Top 5 teams, he is 1-19. The last stat is amazing, in my opinion.

Who cares how good they are, kids need to think about a lot more things when choosing a school. I bet Walker Lee Ashley and Willie Mobley were thrilled to sit on the bench for good teams.

Willie Mobley will see quite a bit of PT next season and most likely be a 2 yr starter at Arizona.

I love the Gophers and as much as I wish we would win every single recruiting battle, I don't think you can blame kids automatically for going elsewhere.

I don't blame them, just saying I'd rather start on the worst team in the country then never get to play a down on the best team in the country. Didn't Willie leave OSU due to lack of playing time?

Yeah, he went to Arizona. He probably wouldn't have gotten much PT until his JR season and may never have started.

I get your point, but it is sort of the flipside of the argument we would use on a kid like Joe Bjorklund who had to choose between a greyshirt here and Toledo (presumably easier to get early PT), Ernie Heifort, or really any kid where we outrecruited an inferior program. You could make an argument that a guy like Shortell could probably be guranteed to be a 3-4 yr starter at a MAC school while most likely he will be competing with Tom Parish and whoever we recruit next season (Nelson or Mollberg) for PT in his JR season.

EXACTLY. But we all know we're biased for Minnesota in all situations anyway. :)

And I doubt Estime is thinking he won't play at VT, I'm guessing he believe he's good enough to be better than any of those DEs they've already brought in. And a lot of kids hate losing too, so they might not consider it not playing for a winner or starting for a losing squad. They look at it as a chance to play for a winning program, not one in flux and transition that may not be successful. But each recruit is different. Perhaps after visiting, Estime does feel like his chances of playing sooner are better here and he decides to stick to his verbal. I really hope he does, cause like I said earlier, he's one of the recruits I'm most excited about.

There are a lot of things that go into a players choice of schools. From a FB standpoint (education aside unfortunately) not only is the issue playing time, which to me is if they really want to show they are all that, competition should motivate them, not distract them, but they should look at the quality of coaching they will receive, especially if they have any dreams of going pro. I think MN has improved on that with Kill and company.

They also have to recognize if they are a good fit for what is happening on the team scheme wise. Though the coaching staff should be more in tune to that, the players should as well. That is why with the new coaching staff, the happiest player on the Gophers right now should be Gray.

Those are just a couple of things.

I respect the institution of marriage so much that doing it once wasn't enough for me!

What's the old joke? Marriage is an institution and you know what kind of people they put in institutions....

Most kids even if they're walkons think they are going to beat out everyone at their position and be starters. They think that people were wrong to rate them where they were and they should be a 5 star recruit. I would be willing to bet over 99% of 3 star recruits honestly think they are going to go pro. They are 17-18 year old kids who have been told they're great their entire lives. They don't get how big of a jump it is. So even if VT recruited 100 other DE's, it probably wouldn't enter his throught process because he thinks he's better than the other ones. Of course in Erstime's case he might be right...

That mentality is part of what makes them D1 talent.
