"Gophers director of basketball operations Joe Esposito is a candidate for the Minnesota Duluth's basketball coaching vacancy, and he would be a good one. Esposito was head coach at Angelo State for eight years (1998-2006) and recorded 118 victories, leaving the school with the highest winning percentage of any coach in the program's history. ... Meanwhile Gophers assistant basketball coach Vince Taylor was a finalist for the Central Michigan coaching job that went to Keno Davis, the son of veteran coach Tom Davis, who coached at Iowa and Drake."

Go Gophers!!

I heard all of the coaches (not named Smith) were trying to find other jobs. I don't think this is a good sign. If they all come back (which Jirsa and Taylor are looking like) will they want to be at the U?

Not a good sign, agreed, but what does it mean? Care to speculate?

My guess is that they're not happy here. My money would be on that, rather than Tubby trying to run them out. When you're not winning though, it's understandable, things get frustrating, and it has been 5 years.

It could be they don't things are going to go well next year and are looking around for jobs now instead of when they will be out of work?

Also a possibility, being more proactive (although I think we will be better next year). Either way, it's not a good thing when all your coaches are looking in the off-season.

Wasn't there something during the season about Tubby going at it with his assistants? I don't remember it being a big deal, but it could be much bigger than it was reported as being.

Taylor has been looking for a HC job for a number of years which I think is great. He has been a finalist at a few jobs over the years including Western Kentucky, Central Michigan and a few others. Tubby's staff has had no movement at all since he arrived - a bit of turnover no matter the reason isn't a bad thing.

Go Gophers!!

Agreed, it's just strange to have so many assistants looking to get out at the same time.

I think the evaluation of good or bad from the Gophers perspective would be who the replacement would be if any of the staff does indeed leave. Adding a bright offensive mind or a big time recruiter could be a huge positive. Unfortunately, the coach that receives the most negative discussion is Saul and there is no discussion about him moving on.

Last season was not a good time to be Tubby's son. Many things including that will be forgotten shortly. I was happy when posters stopped badmouthing our 2 new recruits.

Doogie tweeted about heated exchanges between them.

Yes, haven't people been calling for a major shakeup anyways. I wouldn't be surprised if Tubby agrees.

+1 Turnover would not be a bad thing and having your assistants go for head coaching jobs is what you want.. versus never trying to be a head coach again. If they were interviewing for assistant jobs at other D1 programs then I would be concerned, not concerned about these developments at all...they realize that they will not succeed Tubby if Minnesota starts improving..that would be Saul or an outsider..so its normal to look around if you can get a head coaching gig.. father time ticks away.
