The Philadelphia Phillies appear to have won the Bryce Harper sweepstakes, finalizing a 13-year, $330 million deal with the free-agent outfielder, league sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Thursday.

Harper's deal includes a no-trade clause and has no opt-outs, league sources told ESPN, indicating that he is committed to the Phillies for possibly the rest of his career.

Harper, the 2015 National League MVP and still only 26 years old, was one of the top prizes in this year's crop of free agents. Infielder Manny Machado agreed to a 10-year, $300 million deal with the San Diego Padres, and it was assumed Harper's total would exceed that contract. Not only did he do that, his total beats Giancarlo Stanton's 13-year, $325 million extension signed with the Miami Marlins.

"We had average values of $45 million offered on shorter-term deals," Harper's agent, Scott Boras, told the New York Post. "We had a full buffet."

At least they were somewhat smart and have the salary go down in the last 3 years when he's 37, 38 and 39. Still. 13 years.

Dang the dodgers deal would have been a gamble that could have paid off pretty big had he still been dominating at the end of it. I don't blame him for taking the 13 year deal though. That is some serious security there.
 






Bryce Harper's contract expires in 2031, Bobby Bonilla's contract doesn't expire until 2035.

The Dodgers big trade to shed salary didn't really pay off. Or did it... Avoiding that kind of salary might have been a good thing.

The money he could have made with the LA influenced/endorsements would have more than made up for that imo but you may be correct.
