ESPN: Many college players among 20 charged in point-shaving scheme

End sports gambling immediately.
Yes. Please. It preys upon people who are addicted to gambling. Ive seen videos and testimonials where they are offering small free things in their emails if they go without doing it for a period of time. It is predatory. Think of how many times you see it on your screen during the game, in the arenas, in commercials, endorsements from celebrities. Not to mention the obvious affect it has on our games. It's the wild wild west.

Could you imagine if alcohol companies could message an alcoholic and tell them cold beers were on sale just for them?

Why would anyone bet on sports?

If you want to put a hail Mary on the Vikings to win the Superbowl for kicks, sure. But I can't think of really anything dumber than betting weekly on college sports
Agree. Tons of my friends are throwing in weekly parlays which almost never work. It's insane. If I am in a legal state, I will put some bets in, but 2 years ago I threw in $100 and will never add more to the account.

If the Gophers Basketball wins the tourney this year I may actually have to remove some money from that account.

I think the younger gen is pretty heavily into wagering. Killing Vegas. Don’t let ‘em tell you it’s not.

Because it's entertaining and if one wins 52.5% of the time (against a regular 10% vig) it's at least break even.

Betting outside one's means, is not smart.

While gambling addiction is nothing to downplay, this argument could be used for a lot of hobbies. Why does anyone go out to eat at restaurants, pay to see movies, etc.? Why does anyone drink alcohol? Why do I spend money on gophers season tickets?

At least with betting there's an opportunity to end up with more money in your pocket for the entertainment.
