Despite the lowest winning percentage in school history, Darrell Hazell will be brought back as coach of the Purdue Boilermakers for a fourth season, a source told ESPN on Thursday.

Hazell's future had been in doubt because of his overall record of 6-26. Last week's upset of Nebraska was only the Boilermakers' second win in 20 Big Ten games under Hazell.

Before receiving a six-year deal at Purdue, Hazell compiled a 16-10 record at Kent State.

But will he be here when they come to TCF that is the question?

Yeah....feels a lot like the 4th year Brew was given. He may be the coach when the season starts but who knows if he will still be standing by the end of the season.

How is it like that at all? The Gophers went to a bowl game in Brewster's 3rd season. Hazell will be lucky to win 3 or 4 games this season.

Talking more about year 4. There were rumblings early in the year that Brewster was going to get fired and he was let go after game 7. I could see something similar taking place with Hazell next year in that there will be rumblings early if the team gets off to a slow start again and the axe will drop sometime round mid-season.

Ya that USD loss pretty much sealed Brew's fate. Him getting waxed by Jerry Kill didn't help his cause either

Have a connected Boiler friend and he told me before the Nebraska game that he would be back because if they let him go they would still owe him 6MM and there is no way Purdue would be willing to eat that amount...

And by getting waxed you mean out gaining them by 100 yard, having 11 more first downs, down 4 entering the 4th quarter and losing by 11?

Amazing the team that got Brewster fired lost to kills best team ever (or maybe that was last years team) by 11 and out gained them by 100 yards.

a week or so ago I saw on ESPN that he has a huge buyout and The ESPN folks thought that he would be back.

Was that the Iowa St debacle? Maybe the worst bowl game in the history of time? I can't recall since I've done my best to eliminate that swirl around the toilet from my mind.

This isn't the year Purdue wants to be looking for a coach. Look at all the jobs open that are already better than Purdue. Sounds like Virgina and West Virgina may come open too. Who knows what happens at Indiana. Texas may be coming open too.

Wow, low expectations at Purdue.
