Sounds like they discussed 5 to play 5, but couldn't get consensus. So this was the compromise.

Yes. I prefer auto bids and auto bids with an objective criteria

I am okay with bad conference champions not making it.
Liberty was 12-1 in 2023 and 47 in massie index



The number one thing that would improve the playoffs is a somewhat objective qualification system.

This is essentially 5 for 5 if you were part time or inured in any of the first 4

This year 16 would have allowed Notre Dame, BYU, Texas and Vanderbilt in.

Seven teams from the SEC in a year where they clearly didn’t even have a Top 5 team says all you need to know about their agenda of simply expanding to 16 and keeping everything else the same.
