7. Minnesota (8-3, 5-3): Tracy Claeys wants a contract extension, and it's getting harder and harder to say no. The Golden Gophers haven't won nine games in 13 years, but they're just one victory from that mark. They absolutely dominated Northwestern 29-12 on Saturday and are slowly climbing the rankings. They rose one spot this week.

Go Gophers!!

This begging is pretty sad. This was supposed to be the year. 5th year Senior QB, the "best team" he has ever had. New and improved Offense. His style, his way, his team. They controlled their own destiny, and failed. In my opinion, the team has underperformed. He can beg for an extension after he beats Wisconsin.

Got any actual quotes him "begging" for the job?

It's an ESPN article. No one is begging, and in fact, I highly doubt that there is an unsolicited quote out there from Claeys where he "asked for an extension".

This is the second article this month with the same subject. Claeys wanting an extension. I'm sure it's been brought up for a reason.

If we beat a top 10 Wisconsin team on the road and take the axe, there will be begging for an extension. But it won't be coming from Claeys.

How did we "fail?" Going into the season, we beat every one were suppose to and lost to everyone were suppose to. Game by game, we beat everybody we were favored against and went 2-2 against teams we were underdogs against.

We controlled our own destiny with three games left and lost to Nebraska, and thus we failed. Could/should have beaten Penn State. Could/should have beaten Iowa. And thus we failed.

As these "extension" threads become more prominent, I've started to feel more concerned if Coyle has NOT had some discussion with Claeys about an extension. This is very much a long shot, but what if we do win in Madison on Saturday? Claeys would be a first year coach with a 9-3 record, possible share of the Big 10 West title, coming off a road victory against our biggest rival that was also ranked in the top 10. Basically, this would be one of the most successful seasons in the past 40 years. Just think about that for a few minutes...

Oh, I'm sorry... do you sleep with Claeys or something, since my opinion is some how hurting you?

dont apologize to me you sound crazy - you are entitled to your opinion but you gotta deal with other people telling you that you sound stupid if you're going to talk

Could and should are two very different things. How many teams are saying they could or should have beat us? 4-5 probably.

So there aren't any quotes. Just a Head Coach indicating that he'd like to sign an extension. That's barely newsworthy let alone begging, but pretty good clickbait for Gophers Fans huh?

How does it sound crazy? Maybe you haven't watched or payed much attention much to how Claeys calls a game, or maybe you just don't know too much about football, so you think it's crazy. Either way, trying to attack someone personally for an opinion of how a coach has performed, makes you the stupid one. I just reconfirmed it.

no dude ive watched all the games man but my dad always said 'its not what you say its how you say it' and i just read your diatribes like a middle aged crusty white dude who is sexually frustrated that's all

Sure and 127 FBS teams "fail" to win the national championship every year. We won every single game we were suppose to win going into the season and lost all of the ones we weren't expected to win going into the season. Hard to call that a failure.

Any chance the real problem is not the Gophers, but rather what you think the Gophers Could/should have done?

What's funny is that most of you have been complaining about the Gophers also, but the moment someone shares an opinion, everyone tries to pull their panties down to declare their body parts are bigger. Don't like my opinion? Move on. Is this not a forum where we can voice our opinion about our favorite team? I guess for you guys, it's a forum where you can argue and troll others because their opinions don't coincide with yours? And some of you just like to troll because some how it makes you feel like you're some hero.

Win the Axe and he can get an extension and likely a hefty pay raise. Don't know if he has it in him to out coach Paul Chryst, I just don't see these coaches being able to match up, and they already have the better athletes. Hog the football and keep it out of Clements hands and you give yourself a chance. I don't know time of possession and an explosive offense are not things we have seen from these Gophers. I would like to see Claeys get the extension, but who knows with a new AD, he may have other ideas.

Gophers .727
Vikings .600
Wild .571
T-wolves .364
Twins .364

... and it's unlikely the Viking finish much better than .500.
This team should be covered by the sports media in this town as the biggest winner in this market because they are. And it really isn't even that close.

Extend him for another year and be done with it!

I'd be okay with an extension if the Gophers finish 1-1 the remaining two games. That would be a road win against 9-2 Wisconsin or a bowl win against an SEC or Pac 12 opponent.

Forums are not safezones where one's opinions are void from debate or ridicule. If you desire to be free from the peanut gallery, don't post in a forum. Make a blog and turn off the comments.

You have posted something like six times in this thread already and you are suggesting others should move on. Mmmkay. It is hard to "move on" from your opinion when you continue to double down on it AND let's face it: your opinion is a bit wacky.

I love the self-important, delusional arrogance of posters on the GopherHole. As if anyone in the administration or anywhere else for that matter, gives a rat's A$$ whether you'd "be okay with an extension!"

"Think you used enough dynamite there Butch"
