per ESPN:

Ferentz, Fitzgerald and Dantonio are the only Big Ten coaches who held their current positions in 2007. Back then, the league's coaching ranks included mainstays like Penn State's Joe Paterno, Michigan's Lloyd Carr, Purdue's Joe Tiller and Ohio State's Jim Tressel. The Big Ten was the national model of coaching longevity. Even programs that had recently made changes, like Wisconsin and Minnesota, were replacing coaches who had been at those schools for 10 years or longer. Fitzgerald had become Northwestern's coach in 2006 after the sudden death of Randy Walker, who had been in his post since 1999 and had received a contract extension through 2011.

In less than a decade, the Big Ten has gone from historic stability to historic volatility in its coaching ranks, which reflects a seismic national landscape. There have been 15 coaching changes in the conference since the start of the 2010 season, the most fluctuating stretch since the 1940s.

Four programs have made multiple changes, including traditional powers Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State. Three coaching changes took place during the season, most recently at Maryland, which fired Randy Edsall on Sunday after a 2-4 start.

"There's not a lot of patience," Dantonio said. "People are asked to win and to win now, and you're basically judged on winning. That's what's happening out there."

Go Gophers!!

I heard Darell Hazell say today "you're coaching in a microwave that's set for 10 seconds." It's definitely a sign of the times. Instant food, instant money, instant celebrity...instant winner. Even a taste of success isn't enough. If Iowa fans had their druthers, Ferentz would've been fired 2 years ago! Pelini was run out of town for only winning 9 games every year. Crazy times, these.

Oh, and btw, Hazell is probably down to about 1 sec left on the microwave, lol...

Could be a sign of the times, or just a cycle syncing up. I mean Michigan had to make a change, Hoke was bad, Ohio State had to, Penn State had to. It seems like it just takes a few of the larger powers to sync up to make it a big deal.

The guy is 5-25 at Purdue.. That might have be more like "5 minute defrost. Flip meat over".

Ya, I have no idea how he still has a job? He had one nice season at Kent bleeping State to get the job in the first place. If they are on our schedule going forward hopefully he keeps his job.

Hahahahaha proof not all ADs are on board with the trend.

What another lame attempt to bash the Big Ten. What about Auburn, Florida, USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Pitt, etc.? This is not a Big Ten issue.
