Heard through a friend that this young man has "verbally committed." Has anyone heard anything on him? See him listed at 6-6, 240.

I know Bemidji has a player getting a lot of looks from D1 schools, so it wouldn't surpise me if he is on the Gophs radar. But I can't confirm he has committed.

Yes, thats him, good kid out of bemidji. Not too many offers even though he's a beast, good get for Minnesota.

Big kid. Getting some interest from Michigan State and Wisconsin.

I hope this is true. I'm hoping he turns out like another diamond in the rough...Willie VanDeSteeg.

Looks like a future d-tackle to me, which would be fine; I'd rather have 6'5 dudes in the trenches any day.

I'm not used to seeing snow in these recruiting videos. Gotta love northern MN

Just talked to Ernie. He has not committed to Minnesota. He attended their camp and will be at the USC games and Penn State games, but has not received an offer yet. He finished with 18 tackles in their 21-20 season opening win. Look for a story tomorrow on him.

Thanks, Chris!

I had figured that we would've heard if there had been a commitment, but I wanted to be sure. I'll be following this young man's senior season a bit more closely now...

fair enough.

How can they not give the kid an offer. He's big enough, accomplished enough. He's slow for an end, but it's likely a result of improper lifting. A year as a redshirt with Coach Hill will fix that.

I like this kid's numbers.. Very impressive. But I dunno if it's just me, but he looks like he's got slow acceleration, and on alot of the plays I've seen, he seems to start backpeddling/stepping up before the ball's snapped.

I guess looking at his numbers and then looking at the tape, I expected a kid that was obviously standing out in the crowd with his abilites. Instead I saw a huge kid that blew up blocks and throws his body into tackles. I'd like to see him wrap up more.

Nonetheless, if 'Sconnie and MSU are looking at him, then I'm totally ok with him becoming a Gopher.

Not jumping off the page.

1) this kid is a major project to get up to speed (literally, he looks pretty slow -albeit on not that great of footage.)

2) we have a whole slew of similar prospects (7 in total of LB/TE/HB/FB body types - most of whom are LB in high school) already committed.

3) there are bigger fish still on the line to reel in like Ramik Wilson who are also in the body type of a LB that could grow into a pass rushing DE.

In the end I would love to see this kid as preferred walk-on, and I'd imagine many of the other Big Ten programs in contact with him are similarly trying to woo him into such a arrangement or keeping him as a back-burner option.

For under-recruited outstate kids, the big kid out of Springfield, Tyler Marz seems like a higher potential candidate, having earned offers at both the Gopher's and Badger's camps and having the basketball background (feet). Where the recent commit leaves us with him, however, is quite interesting.

I completely agree with everything you just said.

I'd love to have this type of kid as a preferred walk-on, but I think it's laughable if the Gophers even consider offering him a scholarship.

And you are basing this on what? It could be the kid is just plain slow. I think he would be great walk-on however.

He's got to be a walk on target right now. He does have some acceleration, but not for a LB, maybe a strongside DE or DT. Reminds me of Cole Jirik(NDSU) from a few years back. Tall LB with good strength and a big frame, but with limited sideline to sideline potential.

Playing against my old high school...

Here is his tape. Seems to play straight up and looks stiff? Maybe I'm unfairly comparing him to the football I was watching this weekend?

You have to realize that he hasn't had a ton of one on one coaching time, with the kind of specialists you get in T.C. area schools. This is the kind of guy who really benefits from a red shirt year, and some pine time. Put some weight on that frame and you may have something.

Put some weight on my frame and throw in some speed and you may have something with me!! :)

I have heard that Ernie has been talking to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Airforce, Harvard and others. He has been seen at two Minnesota games already this season. He is a big kid! I hope we keep him in Minnesota, it would be a shame for a Minnesota boy to wear Red!
