Early Top 25 college football rankings for 2026 season: Can Indiana repeat? Who’s No. 1? Gophers #30

I cant read the article, but the Gophers at 30 seems fairly optimistic IMO.

Gophers had a very strong recruiting class.

The portal may be even more important. Another discussion here says Indiana's average age is 24.

We will see.

The new Big Ten is brutally hard. 30 may be pushing it.

Minnesota was 1 win away (either Northwestern or Cal) from being about #30 in the final polls. So it's not wild at all to think they at least rise to that level with a lot of returning players and a QB with a year of experience.

The 2026 schedule is mostly favorable. The two traditional powers (Michigan, Penn State) were both down last year and are replacing coaches. Indiana appears to be the doomsday game. Iowa is still a big hurdle until we start seeing more wins in that series.

The potential risk for next year is that 2025 Minnesota had a better record than the eye test and the stats. Close wins, blowout losses, and most of the wins piled up against the bottom 5-6 teams in the league.

If the BIG can benefit from the SEC model that every loss is a quality loss and a winless team is just out of the playoffs, then the Gophs should be top 12 by the end of thew year.
