Early Mock Draft - Gophers

Browser had a chance to be Purdy’s backup but now that Rodger’s has signed, no such luck.

Wow. 4 OL in the first dozen picks including 3 tackles. Ersery's stock might be increasing.

Top 5 available at each position

Tackles

1. Aireontae Ersery

Ersery brings alluring size and length to the tackle position for the NFL. He has good hands, an explosive first step forward and quick footwork to be an impactful zone run blocker, but his naturally high-waisted build impacts his leverage and may inhibit him from keeping NFL rushers in front of him.

I was hoping for Will Jackson, our IOL draft history is shoddy at best
Have our corners been any better (been a minute since Xavier Rhodes)! Oof da and the other option was the need at safety… oh Lewis Cine over Hamilton and Gladney instead of our very own Antoine Winfield Jr (sigh)

I feel better knowing about Johnson's injury concerns now, but you're right, we've had a lot more misses than hits at many positions

Kwesi had been an A for free agents and F for the draft. Hopefully this kid is plug-and-play and a two contract starter for us.

I am hoping Ersery goes in the Second Round. I don't see him going past the 3rd Round.
Hopefully, the six draft-eligible guys get drafted or get UDFA contracts.

Seems like a lock. Can’t imagine all American tackles make it out of round one too often.

I always get a chuckle out of the draft "experts." Ersery gets high marks from some, but Daniel Jeremiah and Lance Zierlein over at nfl.com don't think that much of him. Who knows what scouts and GMs actually think? Like you, I'm hoping he gets snapped up in the second round. He needs to clean up his game a bit, but a person doesn't see the kind of size and athleticism that Ersery has very often.

Hey I really appreciated what these players did for the program. And wish them the best. They gave us 109%. But this class merely represents a middling program in search of something better. Fleckball and the UM has a lot of work to do against huge obstacles in order to get into the blue blood level.
More knowledge!!

Most mocks and rankings show a pretty distinct gap between the OT that went in the 1st round and the next group of guys. Once a team or two takes a OT in the 2nd round we'll probably see a good run of them.

From 2000 - 2019 we had roughly 30 players drafted into the NFL
From 2020 - 2024 we had 15 guys drafted with another 4-5 likely to hear their name called this year as well.

We are not likely to ever reach blue blood status in college football but we are far from a middling program as well. Especially as it pertains to putting players into the NFL as we have seen a pretty significant increase in guys playing at the next level over the past few years.
IIRC, I looked this up last year on Saturday, asI used to watch the whole thing. We had more picks than WI and Nebby and were only a couple behind Iowa.

Quantum leap from when there were years with none.

Gophers ranked 10th in the Big the past five years with 15 just behind Wisc 17 and ahead of Purdue 14, Illini 13, Terps 12, MSU 10, Huskers 9, NU 7, R 4, and IU 3

Prior to the 2024 draft the Gophers ranked #11 of the 18 BIG teams in all-time draft picks.

Ersery and Walley both high NFL draft picks!

Starting as a freshman at Minnesota predicts big things.

Wow, Walley way earlier than I would have expected.

Great praise for Minnesota and PJ from the broadcasters as well.
Started a thread above that can probably be deleted.

I thought Walley was a Day 3 guy, but not all that surprised.

1745683628702.pngMinnesota is right behind the current "Big 4" and as was mentioned before - WI, NE are missing with Iowa with only 1 person drafted. Will be intereting to see how draft unfolds for the rest of the Gopher gang.
