I think he knows that he has to step up not only for the team but for himself. All the attention was directed somewhat elsewhere else before, but now it directed directly at his him.
 

Good read, we need him to step up. I really think Saturday is his coming out part to the BT.

Wright did have 5 catches for 57 yards and a TD in his first BT game … against Ohio State in 2021. Another game in which CrAB was unavailable because of injury. If he can do it against Ohio State’ secondary, he can do it against MSU’s, especially with BSF now having become a threat. Go Gophers.
 


We have good wide receivers, Mike Brown Stephens, Daylin Wright, Daniel Jackson,
L Brockington all can make plays. Spann Ford, we see them get the ball on time and in rythem they will make plays. These guys go up against a great secondary every day, iron sharpens iron you know when they go up against that tough group they will make plays. Playing a good opponent in practice you have no choice to get better.
 

I recall him drawing a PI pretty early and thinking that cb looks completely overmatched physically, let’s pick on that match up. Instead he finishes with zero catches. I don’t understand how he isn’t more involved.

I don’t understand this either, unless it is simply that he can’t get separation from his defenders. If that is the case, is he simply not good enough or is he a poor route runner? I had high hopes for him, but I’m not expecting anything else from him. He’s had the opportunity. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised and he makes me regret this post.

I’d like to see more from Brockington as far as playing time is concerned. I think he’s got some real potential.
 

i have seen Dylan Wright high-point a ball beautifully, and I've watched him catch contested passes... sometimes. Not consistently, though.

Can Dylan Wright consistently get separation from defenders?

Can he make himself available and highly visible to a QB who is under a rush, and who is scrambling? Can Dylan Wright move around instinctively in such a way that the QB can spot him and deliver a catchable ball to him?

I don't know. I am not sure if our QBs are sure. Do they have confidence in Dylan?
 



After earning the reputation as a “receivers whisperer” with the development of Corey Davis (at Western Michigan) and Rashod as first round picks, and TJ as a contributor to a Super Bowl champion, Matt Simon's star seems to be fading a bit, since he hasn't been able to develop the current receivers group beyond what they are. I fully expected he would be able to help get Wright to that next level, and have been really disappointed that Wright in particular isn't any better than when he came to the program.
 

I was at the game Saturday. I’m no scout and certainly didn’t follow DW5 on every play - but did watch him a number of times. I came to the conclusion that he simply can’t get separation very well. At least on Saturday. Maybe Purdue had a stud covering him, maybe he just isn’t that good 🤷‍♂️
 

Dylan Wright has talent and tools. He needs to work on refinement and separation. The coaches need to figure out how to improve DW's chances schematically. The entire WR Corps as a unit need to get together as well as an orchestra and play sweet-catching music.

The Vikings had a double-slant play that was well-executed to fool the Saints' defenders and get JJ open. The Gophers need to be creative and study the next two opponents' defensive tendencies to see if they can attack their weaknesses.

It will be a dog fight for the Big Ten West title. This season is turning into a great and exciting battle for the Big Ten West title.

He needed to work on that at his last stop. He then came here and after almost two years, I guess he still needs to work on that.

It's obviously not happening.

His body language on the playing field is different than Rashod Bateman's. RB plays like an alpha dog. There is no mistake.

This describes most of our WR group unfortunately. Wright, Jackson, MBS, etc. all show flashes where they look great, but haven't been able to put it together on a consistent basis. At some point we can't keep hearing about how they have all the tools, they need to put it together.
 


I was also at the game Saturday. Wright was open a lot. For whatever reason, Morgan never looks at him.
 

They desperately need to stretch the field to open up the run game when teams commit to loading the box. I just feel like Morgan doesn’t want to or is coached to not attack if it’s not wide open.

I just re-watched a bunch of our offensive series on the DVR and it's hard to tell since sometimes Wright is off-screen. The plays where I could see him, I would say he didn't have a ton of separation. I wouldn't necessarily say Morgan isn't looking at Wright, but it seems like Wright is usually down the pecking order of progressions. Lots of quicker passes where Morgan throws to his guy before Wright has finished his route.
 

Getting separation is really what defines success at both the collegiate and the NFL level. If you're playing college ball you're def an athlete - but it's the route running and all the little nuance of route running that makes a receiver great.

I'm not gonna pretend like I watch the game close enough to know who does this well - I'm more the type of fan just to escape in the fun of the game. I hope the dude can become an alph dog!

I think he did some more of that in the first 4 games when he had more time to throw. Vs Purdue most of his throws were quick and when he didn't throw to the first guy it was usually disaster because the pocket was collapsing.

Carroll was terrible on Saturday. Schmitz gave up some pressures and they couldn't run the ball. If Mo isn't healthy, they need to look at the 4th back and see what he has to offer.
