Folks,

1. I think this is a good hire. Those who have read my threads know that my first choice was to keep Jeff Horton and his coaching crew for another one year probationary period. Nobody liked my suggestion. My second choice was Mike Leach.

2. Having said that, I like Jerry Kill. He seems to be a no bull$hit lunch pail kind of guy with humility.

3. Is this hire providential? I like to think so. From Wikipedia, "Kill comes from the Middle Dutch word kille, meaning riverbed, water channel, or stream." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kill_Van_Kull How many major research universities are bifurcated by the mightiest river in the USA? Jerry Kill belongs here! Does Jerry have a nickname? Shall we call him "Dutch" or "The Dutchman?" The latter with apologies to the late great Norm Van Brocklin.

4. Speaking of Norm Van Brocklin, I laughed my a$$ off when I read this about him in Wikipedia, "Van Brocklin suffered a number of illnesses, including a brain tumor. After it was removed, he told the press, "It was a brain transplant. They gave me a sportswriter's brain, to make sure I got one that hadn't been used." He died on May 3, 1983, the day after suffering a stroke." I immediately thought of all the Twin Cities sportswriters whom we all love so dearly.

5. My best to Jerry "Dutch" Kill. May he follow the footsteps of and be as great a coach as were Dr. Henry L. Williams, Dr. Clarence W. Spears, Bernie Bierman, and Murray Warmath. I hesitate to ask God for the success of Wallie Winter, because I don't want "Dutch" to be a one year coach. God bless "Dutch" and the "Dutch" era at Minnesota!

Don't forget Jim Dutcher.

Pretty sure it's an Anglo-Saxon surname, but who knows.
