Dubay Calls for Less Rodney More Oto

At least he tries though. Coleman doesn't even look into the post when he gets the ball on the wing.

In defense of Coleman (i think), his man knows he can't shoot, sags off and there is an instant double team on the post player. There is no lane to pass it into the post.

I think what Dubay wanted was a better shooter that could space the floor. His answer to have Oto do this is preposterous. A good option i think would be to have Mav spell the 3rd guard spot (coleman or rodney), and this would help with spacing as Mav has been a very good spot up shooter this year.

That actually does make some sense. Makes me remember the 1st MSU game when Trev and Oto hooked up on a nice give and go and when Oto looked like a real player for about 2 minutes...Seems like eons ago.

Either he's on something or on to something.... Oh wait.. Nevermind.

If I was the coach, I would put Mav at point and Andre and Austin at the 2 and 3. Keep Rodney and Trevor at 4 and 5. This should open up the floor. Also, Mav is propably the best playmaker on the team and feeds the post and runs pick and roll better than Andre. Ande and Austin would help relieve ball pressure on Mav. Rodney is quicker than every 4 he faces , but he doesn't use it. I would throw him the ball in the mid post and tell him to make a play each time he receives the ball. If he remains passive, I would insert Oto and give him the same instructions. Neither one is a good deep shooter, but Oto appears to be a better ball handler, stronger and have better footwork in mid post and low post .

Yes I can. It is the turnovers and horrible shots and lack of court awareness we would get by putting Oto in that would disturb me more than what we would lose with Rodney out.

Yet Rodney displays none of those problems?

No one is arguing that Rodney is playing great, the argument is that even if he isn't doing much he is still better than Oto. I hate to be negative, but Oto provides nothing when he's on the floor. Even at Rodney's worst he is at least a good shot blocker, better defender than Oto, and more reliable with the ball. Why would you increase Oto's minutes? What exactly would be the benefit?

I think Hates Monikers made it pretty clear that players who don't get much playing time often never get comfortable. Truth is, until Oto plays 29 minutes of a game, none of us really know what we'll get. Admittedly, it will never be Rodney's potential, but I think Dubay's point on this is that Rodney is underperforming so badly that maybe it's time to just try someone else. I agree with a previous poster that if Rodney loses minutes, Elliott should be the first to pick them up; if nothing else he'd bring a lot of passion and hustle to the floor each and every game, something that one doesn't observe often enough in Rodney. Give me a decent player who works his azz off over a talented player who plays soft. Hustle and passion in sports are way underrated.

Name one guy on this team that can. (Hint: Blake Hoffarber is not on the team any more.)

This team desperately misses a solid X's and O's guy like Hoffarber.

No he is not

Mav has better point guard skills than Dre. He is a better ball handler, passer, and runs the offense better. He is not a better player but has better skills at the position.

Nope.

Oto is going to be a lottery pick.

(Dubay's return to the air has ever so slightly diminished my life. I like Zulgad a lot. Now I can't stomach the show.)

I'm not sure how you have come to this conclusion. Even if we go with the assumption that Mav does have better handles and passes better (which I don't agree with), he still doesn't run the offense better. A big part of running an offense is getting points on the board by any means necessary, and there is no way Mav does that better than Dre does, no way, no how.

Same here. Can someone explain to me what they enjoy about Dubay? The guy's voice is horrendous and he often comes across like misinformed know-it-all. He continuously interrupts and talks over people. He sounds like a third grader with Asperger's Disorder and damaged vocal chords.

The best post passer is anyone who catches the ball in the high post who gets to dump in down to Trevor, lately EE. The only one I have seen throw a decent post pass graduated last year.

Lost me at this part...Mav may be more of a true point guard than Andre, but JJ Barea is more of a PG than Kyrie Irving too...

Yeah, someone needs to tell the dude to take a breath once in a while. I am not reactionary, when it comes to sports radio/TV guys. I have had to turn the station, the few times I've tried it. It's too much, too fast, non-stop chatter. Annoying.

is that because of the stage we are at?
Default Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and Basketball

My reactions to the past five losses:

Indiana- inspired by the second half while realizing that Indiana was just lights out in the first half (denial)
Michigan- The refs were against us and Dre picked up early fouls. We need the refs to call a fair game (bargaining)
Northwestern- just p1ssed off that we again were not able to solve the 1-3-1 zone (anger)
Wisconsin- Just a deflating loss from the shot clock violation that wasn't and the missed FT at the end (depression)
Michigan State- I just rolled my eyes at some of the things that occurred tonight and was more annoyed than anything (acceptance)

Sounds like you're well on your way to a 12-step program. Good luck!

The chemistry on this team is awful. Nothing fits together like a true team should.

Great observation, Dre is a scoring machine but tie him down with PG duties and everything suffers, Rodney has no post up moves but gets lost trying to play a wing, Coleman doesn't shoot well from the outside and is ineffective if he can't get to the rim (improving though on his pullups, look ugly but some have been going in), Austin Hollins is inconsistent, Mbwake has been steady all year. At times they have looked great, at times they stink, not sure the consistancy is possible with this group, I still think a true PG would have made a huge difference and Dre would probably benefit more than anyone.

Sums up my thoughts as well.

I hereby would like to add Trey Burke to the team. Joe to the bench. One can wish can't they?
