Cool your head for now and do what you need to do to get reinstated. I am CERTAIN it is in your best interests for the long term, even if this season is lost. For the short term, it will be hard. Don't listen to the self-righteous on this board who are quick to criticize and disparage. There are some of us that still think you deserve another chance to get back on the team and set everything right. Good luck.

Especially the short term interests. If the U chooses they can demand repayment of their scholarship money if he quits.

Besides the lost scholarship money, compare his potential NBA salaries. Either he stays here another year to develop his skills and get his life straightened out or tries to get drafted by a team after never playing in college and the threat of being a constant distraction. The difference could be millions!

Royce, if you want to develop your skills for the NBA, then you should transfer to a school that doesn't care whether or not their athletes have pleaded guilty to theft and assault. Many people who live in Minnesota and who love the U of M DO CARE about the moral standards of the student athletes who represent them. We just don't want you here anymore. Please quit - the sooner the better.

Are you serious upnorth? demanding the kid quit, wow, back off...I for one do want this kid here. Yes I do think he is a moron for what he's done but all of us have made him into some type of huge criminal and blow everything out of proportion. The Chris Henry story is perfect for this as he was cut for his last chance, then the Bengals owner have him a last shot after that and he thrived...this can be Royce...

The only thing I would've wanted Royce to do differently is just lay low and stay out of the public eye after this all happened, that way people will kind of forget about it and it'll be easier on everyone, like what Tiger is doing...Instead, Royce kind of brought this all on himself worse by doing the whole youtube video stuff which just created a media craze...

Never seen the guy play. No connections to him or his high school. Therefore limited excitement when he signed and no allegiance to him now. Looks like a real head job and a needless distraction to the team to me from this distance.

pleaded guilty to theft and assault.
You really never let facts get in the way...I'm not a total White apologist, but you have been off with nearly every post you've made.

He never plead guilty to "assault." It was theft and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.

you are such a tool......

Hey Idiot, he didn't plead guilty to assault. Get your facts right. And you speak for the vocal hater prejudicial sect of Minnesotans which is a minority. I support Royce and want to see him play as a Gopher.

This program needs quality players who represent the UM and the program well. Thus far Royce has not demonstrated that he has the type of character that we need from our players. And as a result, we may never see how he performs on the court and he would not be missed as he has yet to play one minute for the Gophers.

Tubby and the program does not need this version of Royce White. Based on his past and now threats and statements of quitting, don't bode well for him. If he truly is innocent, the wise and mature choice would be to wait for the system to work, state his case and accept the judgement and penalty. Royce White put himself in the MOA situation and his involvement in the laptop situation is still unknown. Walking away from a scholarship and opportunity to play at the Big Ten level is not a good sign and not representative of a player who I would want on Tubby's team. I posted two weeks ago that I have not seen any evidence of an apology on his part. Rather we see videos that merely focus on him. Why he doesn't stay away from the limelight is concerning considering the situation he has placed him self in.

It seems as though many on the Hole are equating Royce to a victim when that is far from the truth.

I don't think he would even get drafted. Royce would be going to Europe (and make good money) and then test NBA waters in a couple years.

Ok well make good money in Europe or wait a year or two and make great money in the NBA.

Look, people, I wish Royce were staying here, but he's just not on the NBA's radar at this point in time. He could theoretically declare for the draft this spring, but realistically, he's a tweener who has only proved that he can be a headache who can draw negative press.

If he wants to play professional basketball, he'll have to go play in Europe. It's a whole different game there, but if he does well there, then he could test the NBA draft waters, but that's just not close to happening right now.

For all the talk about how he could just go to the NBA, there's 0 chance he even gets drafted in the second round as things stand now.

I seriously hope for the best for him, but I really think that his best option both personally and professionally is to just take a red-shirt this steason, get his legal stuff out of the way, distance himself from his current group of "friends" and basically let Tubby run his life for the next couple of years. If he does that, he'll be playing in the NBA.

It's just not looking like that's going to happen at this point.

I am not saying it is what I would do if I were in Royce's shoes, but I think that is his best option if he quits the Gophers. Additionally, they aren't even/or scenarios...he could go to Europe and make good money AND then make great money in the NBA in a couple years (ala Brandon Jennings).

UpnorthGo4 is either an ignorant dupe or he is intentionally trying to be inflammatory (tool like) with his ridiculous statements.

If Royce was smart he would go overseas, start his professional career and rehab his image and then hopefully he can make it back to the NBA. As much as I would have loved to have him here, it is in his best interest to move on away from MN and start the next phase of his life.

Royce could of become the joe mauer of the gophers. But sadly politics even affects college sports in 2009

I've seen him play dozens of times. A little over-hyped, but very talented. He certainly would have given the Gophers a go-to player in the post. Solid frame that's Big Ten ready right now. Not very tall at 6-7, but, again, he's strong. Simply dominated the competition at the highest level of high school basketball in the state. If he had a decent jump shot, he'd be in the NBA after two years of college. I think he would have probably averaged 10-11 points and 5-6 rebounds as a freshman.

Upnorth makes a good, but harsh point

All the press from RW has been bad for the U of MN. All of it. And it is his own fault.

He is not the victim here. Even though some are making him out to be just that right here.

We all have choices to make. RW made the choices he has made - take the consequences young man. And he is not helping himself with his technological antics. It doesnt appear he can use simple logice to help himself out, even in the situation he is now in.

Granted, it's been a long day, but what the heck does your post mean? Joe Mauer of the Gophers?

Joe Mauer... A hometown kid who is great, who loves his city, and is beloved by the city.

Way to follow you post with a post... lame joke, by the way. Didn't I see you at Cecil's ?
Oh, am I a Myron suspect now, too? I'm honored.

edit: Actually, I'm not, since I'm a Purdue fan and had no idea who Myron was before today. But okay.

This proves how not intelligent you are
Meh, I'm just kidding. I'm a Tigers fan and as much as I would love to dislike Joe Mauer, he's an amazing player. The Twins are lucky to have a hall of fame caliber kid that seems like he will be content to sign with his hometown team for the rest of his career. I don't think he was the best fielding catcher last year, but it seems like Gold Gloves are rarely awarded to the best fielder these days.

I haven't seen any post yet suggesting that Tubby may have let White know that he wasn't, unofficially, going to be welcomed back. Is that possible?
