dont judge nelson on the start 2moro

I think Nelson is like T. Martinez and when he ages he will be a better runner and passer than T. Martinez! Nelson did well and I also wish we saved his redhsirt. It looks like Nelson is our QB of the present and Future.

I don't think he'll ever be the runner that Martinez is, Martinez is extremely fast.

Right now I will say I would have preferred Gray to be starting, who clearly gives us the best chance at winning.

This all seems quite crazy to me.

But I don't have all the intel.

Philip just played the hardest position in sports as a true frosh on the road.

I give credit to the coaching staff for having our third arm as prepared as he was.

Self-centered backstory: I played college fb at a lower level and I started a game as a true frosh. I felt like I was in the Indy 500. A blur.

absolutely will not be a better runner than Martinez. nowhere near the speed. he should be a better thrower, just needs to get a stronger arm. he reads the field decently well as well. just needs another year to get bigger and stronger.

Of all the QB's you could pick to compare him to you pick Taylor Martinez? Martinez is a GREAT runner, very average passer. Nelson is an ok runner but he is nowhere near Martinez in terms of running ability. From a passing standpoint I would hope like hell he develops into a better passer than Martinez. Nelson strikes me more as the Christian Ponder type, more of a passer than a runner but can run effectively.

No one with half a brain would judge Nelson by today's game. That said, he did 'fine', maybe even 'pretty decent' for a freshman QB in a tough environment.

That was beautiful, just beautiful!

Hah! Walked right into that one.

You know what I mean, though. Judging 'Nelson', and judging 'his performance today' are two very different things IMHO. You can't 'judge' anyone based on their first game. We have no idea what this game says about his future, simply that he didn't do well enough, or poorly enough, to say he had much impact on the outcome of this particular contest. Verdict is out, will be out, and should be out for some time. It's unfortunate that burning his shirt gets people asking this WAY too early, and in a situation where no matter what he did, it was unlikely to be a difference maker either way.

Good point; honestly, I thought that all things considered he did a pretty good job. Unless Gray gets healthy enough to take the beating that a QB will get, I think that Nelson is the best shot to get two more wins. As you said though, at was only one game.
