Don't forget that other Tournament

I disagree, I think many of these guys will play harder than they did in many regular season games, especially guys who are destined to be sitting behind a desk in a year, the NIL payout is not chump change:

"The tournament is breaking ground by awarding NIL payments to participating schools. The championship team will win a $300,000 NIL package, the runner-up will earn a $100,000 package, and the semifinalists will receive $50,000."

In fact, I hate to say it, but I bet some of these teams would rather win this tournament than go 1 and done in the NCAA Tournament. If this catches on, it will change post-season tournaments.

Go Gophers!!

Am curious how this thing goes, especially in comparison to the new NIT, which is now much more mid-major oriented because of the Basketball Crown. I think I read the championship and runner-up teams/players will receive some compensation?

I'll be watching, got nothing better to do!

I'm looking at these two tournaments (NIT & Crown) more with an eye as potential landing spots for St. Thomas in the years they have a really good season (like this past one) but don't win their conference tourney. At least initially it appears the NIT will be the main place for those teams.

I’m not sure if this came from a source or I made it up, but it sure seems like this Crown is likely a contractual obligation of conferences with Fox. There might be some incentive for the players financially through a purse or just exposure in the free agent market, but it has to be a hassle for coaches who need to recruit or be looking for jobs. I’m curious too, and it has to be a decent few days for young guys in Vegas.

It's also only a week long.

One other factor: weird, altered lineups due to portal and other defections. I watched parts of two games. In the Georgetown v. Wash State game, Washington State had a distinct size advantage but was without two starting guards who hit the portal. Georgetown was really shorthanded with four of their top five players in terms of minutes per game not in the lineup. Georgetown did have a speed advantage. Credit to Georgetown for fighting hard the entire way and pulling it out after being behind most of the game. Georgetown had two guys play the entire 40 minutes and another guy who played 39 minutes.

I caught a couple minutes of the first half of Nebby and ASU. That’s all I could muster. They said Nebby hadn’t played since March 9 after falling to qualify for the BTT.

This seems like a bad idea - no team wants to be there, tens of fans in the arena, and it couldn’t possibly be getting much in the way of viewers.

From what I read, $300,000 cash prize to the winning team, $100,000 to the runner up, and $50,000 to the other semifinalists. Supposedly that is to go to players so there definitely is some incentive to win or get close in this tournament.
