Herein lies the problem. We recruited zone running game type OL. Pass blocking, as your first few steps are backwards and your head is swiveling to see gap control and blitzes is WAY different than run blocking.

Our OL is good at one and terrible at the other.

If you are a DC against us, force us to pass and then bring the blitz. We have no answer for it.
Crazy talk.

OL line play isn’t rocket science and we didn’t recruit for a different scheme. Post this game you’ve got 10 or 12 of the dumbest takes of all time floating around.
We literally don’t run the same scheme.

No shit, but the fundamentals are the same. A lot of times who you block comes down to being able to count to effing three and it seems like our guys have a hell of a time with that. Also, especially yesterday, they get physically whipped. Like I said in a different post it’s a GD miracle 16 didn’t get crunched and injured.

Nice to see other Gopher holers in my camp concerning our OL and the coaching.

Only 59 posters have voted and that includes all the trolls who have nothing else to do. I believe it is a mix bag situation and therefore I've elected not to vote. One critical 15-yard penalty changed the course of the game late in the 4th. If that hadn't happened, we wouldn't be having this lengthy discussion.

Do things need to be dealt with? Absolutely.

Quite frankly I think it’s the head coach’s decision and I’m in on this head coach until at least fall 2025

Nebraska just fired its OC because of play-calling that needed to be improved RIGHT NOW, so they can make a bowl. PJ should let Simon call the final games, even if that's all that is involved.

Our OC has been acceptable. I would consider replacing the OL coach though.

PJ made the mistake a few years ago when Simon deserved the chance to be the outright OC position and instead tries to bring in multiple coordinators and co-coordinators, etc.

MN is currently #8 in the conference for points per game (25) in conference play only, #7 for points allowed per game (22.6), and #6 in the standings.

The Red Zone scoring percentage in conference play is 100% (#1) and TDs to Red Zone scoring is 71% (#6). Some of that good percentage is having a QB that makes smart decisions in the Red Zone which gets back to coaching.

Team blocking per PFF puts them about #6 or #7 in the conference (all games).

The offense is above average in conference play but not top notch. Does that deserve a firing? Probably not, but there can be improvement.

How do we know Simon is better? He supposedly called one game vs Auburn. Maybe he is the next Brian Billick, but I don't know how people are assuming he's that great.

Called a really good more aggressive game vs Auburn given the 1 opportunity and been with the program since the start I believe. Tanner Morgan and many others praised him. Maybe he wouldn't have been better, but feel like Fleck should have given him the opportunity to lose it first.

Simon is already deeply involved in game planning and has been for the last few years. In fact, he is Co-OC. So to fire the OC you’d need to fire him too

How do you know he wasn’t?
He has a great resume and is a no brainer but has never left?

To me that says he has no interest in being an OC at this point.

I've always wondered the same thing. He has been the CO-OC since 2020, if he was as great as this forum think why hasn't PJ let him be the solo OC?

I believe it's the same concept of when QB1 is struggling everyone thinks QB2 is better and should be playing.
