per Dodd:

In his second year at Winthrop, he interviewed for the Tennessee job. In seven of his nine years there, Marshall said he had a chance to leave. Some of the offers were from BCS schools.

The UCLA opening is the biggest in the country at the moment. Marshall may be the hottest coach not named Brad Stevens or armed with a contract extension into the middle of the century. The scenario was presented to him: His name will be brought up, if it hasn't already.

“I could have made $2 million [per year in the past], it hasn't swayed me,” Marshall said. “I don't have a parachute. If I fail, I go straight to the bottom. I can make $2 million-$3 million but I like to win. If I can win, I'm happy.”

True, but Marshall could also do much better than to insert himself into that looming morass brewing up in Los Angeles, with all the sketchiness surrounding Shabazz Muhammad being only the tip the proverbial iceberg.

That is a program Howland let get away from himself, presumably due to the pressures of expected winning.

Anyway, that program is currently sketchy as hell, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them get slapped by the NCAA at any moment, with the only questions being, how deeply does the sketchiness go, and how hard will they be hit.

Not sure about him at UCLA, but having watched Gregg Marshall since his time at Winthrop, when they hoped they could keep him there, I can say I'd far rather have him come to Minnesota than many of the other names being tossed around (like Buzz Williams and Anthony Grant).

It's weird how much of a difference a game or two can make throughout a coaching search. Are guys like Marshall and Enfield even mentioned if they lose their first or second round games? What if Davidson hangs on and knocks off Marquette? Is Williams still a hot candidate?

Why only a fool takes the UCLA job:
1) Never fill Wooden's shoes in this era
2)Never will fill Pauley. Highest PSL and seat prices in all sports
3)Public Uni in a broke state
4)13.9% state income tax
5) Cal HS talent and Pac bball has been down too long
6) Ranks about 19th on things to do in town.

Yes. I was asked weeks ago (under the presumption that Tubby would be fired) who my #1 realistic choice would be to replace him, and I said Marshall. I'm guessing I wasn't the only one.

Warning to schools interested in Gregg Marshall: It won’t be easy to pry him from Wichita State

"I'm not in search of anything," Marshall said. "I've got a great life, great family, great community I live in, great school, great administration, great players. What more do I need? More money? That's the only thing. We can obviously make runs in the NCAA tournament from Wichita State.

"This could be a destination job for me. Now it may not be, but I'm just saying I'm not in a big hurry and I never have been."

Nope it's UCLA.

Blue blood programs are that for a reason.

Hence the sexy choice of Ben Howland 10 years ago and no doubt an assistant retread like lorenzo or the Zag coach who dominates a joke conference this go around. Yep, folks are flocking to the socialist republic in droves. That job and program is not Duke or NC.

First politics in OT dude. Anything political is automatically lower on the food chain than even someone like THESCOUT trolling this forum.

Second it's UCLA, enough said. It's a top 5 job nationally.
