Can I vote for Big Ten games won't be played in 2020, but college football games will?

three weeks ago i'd say yes there would be games, maybe with fans but definitely games even without fans.

last three weeks the rona got worse again and no signs of slowing down. thus, i sadly voted no.

I think we’ll get about 2-3 weeks into the season before the whole enchilada falls apart.
Won’t make it that far. Todays announcement buys them 3 weeks to see professional sports fall apart (already happening in MLS) before they cancel outright.

Considering non-cons out, Ivy League out, contagion will be wild in close contact drills and games, a real season is increasingly unlikely. U now offers a deal whereby you defer purchase for this year, but keep your tickets for '21 at no cost for the deferral.

No cost to defer til next year? I was holding on renewing for this very reason. Is there a link somewhere I missed?

They sent an email to the season ticket holders on this about a month ago

I think the football season and all other seasons should take place. But, one thing to consider is that if the football season is cancelled, there really won't be a good argument that the winter sports, such as basketball, should take place, either.

The first time a player gets real sick there will be intense media pressure to shut it all down.
You talking NFL?

If deaths continue as they have the last three days, there won't even be a start to the college season. They'll cancel the whole thing, proactively.

Is the department going to hit up the legislature to subsidize Coyle and Co’s outrageous salaries with only 5% typical revenue coming in? 😅

Rubber hits the road shortly.

May as well cancel everything fun for the rest of our lives without a vaccine

If there is no college athletics, and there is no money, I think Coyle, Fleck, and co. could still live quite a nice lifestyle by accepting a year long no-pay/minimal-pay agreement.

No one is going to propose shutting down the athletics department for good, simply because of a 1 year blip.

I propose that the payroll of the department involves far more than the handful of high rollers. Do they get subsidized?

I said "and co.". That's everyone on the dept payroll.

I highly doubt the UMN is going to ask the state for a bailout specifically for athletics. That would never happen.

My main takeaway from this pandemic is how soft Americans are. You would think going without some entertainment for 6 months is like rushing Normandy from the way people whine about it.

Every single aspect of life has been forced into silos of partisan politics and "culture wars". If you're in one silo, you must vote the ticket on every line, or else gtfo.

People like to do things.

Whining about whinging ... is whining.

So true. I have some of the most intelligent, thoughtful, helpful friends on the conservative side of things. These are problem solvers and charitable folks in every way. I am slightly on the left of the middle, used to be called a moderate. Then i have family and friends on what has become the far left. The latter group insists the former group is racist for not donating to BLM, are intellectually inferior (nothing could be further than the truth ) The former group thinks the latter group is radical herds of sheep that will follow one another off a cliff. Neither is productive as anger results in not listening. The level of discourse divisive. The reality is both groups have three issues of which tie them to their party. This is know about both sides screaming they are right ! That would not have worked at Normandy ! The logistics of planning took listening and learning, the execution courage beyond comprehension.

I don't know if any amateur athletics can make a case that a majority of people will accept. It'll be a tough sell.

Starting to feel it will fall like dominoes the same way it did with conference tournaments before March Madness and everything will end up cancelled.

If the season normally started after November 3rd, I'd be more optimistic.
