now that the "powers to be" selection of Legends and Leaders was met with a resounding thud, what names would you suggest? Checking other boards, some have suggested Black and Blue, Lakes and Plains, Forest and Prairie, and, of course, East and West. Creative GopherHolers: Any ideas? I suspect East and West would be the consensus favorite. That said, however, maybe someone on this site has a better idea.

I don't think you could go with colors or directional names.

Great Lakes and Great Plains have always been my favorite, which was based on a strict E/W alignment. Even with the alignment as it is, either name works, albeit not totally geographically correct.

We could make Great Plains into Great Rivers and everyone could be happy.

I'll go with Great Lakes and Great Rivers as my first choice.

After that, I like Stars and Stripes, Liberty and Freedom, Midwest and Central.

From the silly part of my brain comes Pizza and Beer, First and Ten, Running and Passing, Grass and Turf...
 




East and West

Even tho Michigan would be in the west, they shouldn't complain as they proclaim themselves "Champions of the West" Ugh!

Starting to appear they should have gone with a straight east west divide. Names would be a done deal.

East West split; our division
Lose- Michigan and Michigan St
Add- Ill and Wisc

MN came out pretty well on the current divide so I can't complain too much.
 



"Black and Blue" for one division, "Cloud of Dust" for the other....
 

The best idea I've heard is shown below. I faxed this suggestion to Delany.

The Big Ten has only had 4 commissioners, and one's still serving. Two died in office. How about the John L. Griffith division and the William R. Reed division?

The division trophies could be the Griffith Trophy and the Reed Trophy. I think these names acknowledge the history and stability of the Big 10.

I also mentioned that the logo was fine except for the North Carolina powder blue. I do not think the Big 10 is a pastel conference.
 

How about:

The Confusing Division
&
The Micromanaged Division
 

It would be nice if the names helped non-BT folks have a clue who's in which divison. So if not East/West, then Great Plains/Great Lakes or Lakes/Rivers would be fine. I know the whole issue of only Nebraska being a Great Plains state and every state but two having Great Lakes, but it's still descriptive enough to work and no one cares about these technicalities. I kind of the like the Great Lakes/Great Rivers. MN and Iowa have the Mississippi and Nebraska has the Missouri. I'm not sure it works all that well for Michigan but you nothing will be perfect.

You faxed it? What is this 1993?

But I do like naming the divisions after a couple commisioners.

I'm down only if it's Rotel and Velveeta. It would pay homage to the great history of the Big 10 Network. They have indicated that honoring Conference History is important. ;)
 

Haven't figured out the other division but our division could be:

3M2NIA Division;)
 




As soon as I heard Legends and Leaders, I thought Legends and Heroes would be better.

Or about as relevant, but more fun would be Big and Ten. Announcers would have a slight tongue twister during inter division games or the championship: "The Big champions vs the Ten champions for the Big Ten Championship."

Do you really want Dave Lee to even attempt that?
 



I like Rose and Citrus if we're going to stay creative after the Big Ten's top two bowl sites.
