In what way? You are comfortable with this next season? You think it's acceptable for a division 1 football team competing for a Big10 title not to be able to attempt a pass on 1st and 10 or 2nd and 9 from their own 25 w/ 3:30 left, trailing by 10?
It's absolutely pathetic. This was a really good team this season, and the QB play was absolutely atrocious.
Amazing that we were up at halftime….our team rocks. We were playing for the championship after the mess Brewster left us in. We were in this game to the last five minutes. What an awesome season. How can anyone be negative after that season…we have the pig, the jug and a 2-game win streak against Nebraska. I salute the entire team and the entire staff for what was an awesome year. I can't wait for the bowl game.
Quit whining and start celebrating how far we have come….
dont think anyone is asking for kills head, it was a game for the taking, sorry we want better but this was going to be a tough game, we wanted to stop the run, and wi qb looked like rodgers out there
I don't think ML7 is good. However, I know he is our best option right now and this notion that we just plug in this freshman, or that freshman, give em all a shot, go get a JuCo, etc., etc. is out of touch. Trust me when I say that if you see something, our coaches do too. Trust me when I say they want to win more than you. It just isn't as easy as you and some others make it sound.
I suspect most of these folks are trolling. Yes leidner was bad, but anybody who doesn't acknowledge what we accomplished this season is stupid or messing with us

I love what the staff has done, don't get me wrong. But they were in year 4 and this was their QB. I think it's fair to question their judgement in regards to QB play a bit.
*fully understand Nelson should've been this years QB. That doesn't change the fact they have given scholarships to Leidner, Strevler, etc
Which one? They played two most of the game.
I hope you losers find the cliff you're looking for and jump. Me? I enjoyed the best most exciting Gopher season in my lifetime. Hopefully the team is still learning and we'll get farther next year. Go Gophers!
Absolutely. However, that and demanding or thinking better alternatives to ML7 next year are easy to find are 2 different topics. FTR, I'm not ready to give up on all the qbs on our roster either... especially those that haven't played.
I was disappointed back in August that the position was handed to Mitch without any sort of competition.
We were up by two touchdowns and should have been up by more. Your opinion is that of a loser and a good reason why we haven't won the conference in 47 years.
So this is what a room of adults having a tantrum looks like. I'll file this thread for future reference.
Newsflash: Over 5 billion people in this world don't care about a football game between the UofM and Wiscy. Your whining isn't about kids not competing. It's about your own pride being injured because you can't, at this moment, grasp the fact that you just watched kids play a game and your kids lost. Go out to DQ and get a Blizzard and then go on with the rest of your life. Games over. Find something positive to do with the rest of the weekend and stop having a tantrum on the GH floor.
I think so very very little of Leidner, that I do think finding a better option for next year should be fairly easy. I was disappointed back in August that the position was handed to Mitch without any sort of competition. If that happens again this offseason I will be extremely disappointed and think it's more than fair to question whether the correct people are in place to recruit and coach Qb's
Really? McAvoy was in for 5 plays, carried each time and ran for 12 yards.
McAvoy handed off on no other plays? He had stats for 5 plays, but that does not account for playing time, plays in. I reviewed the stats sheet on the MN website. Stave had all 19 pass attempts. And therefore all the pass stats. Does 19 attempts with 50+% completion with 2/3plays accounting for all of the passing yards. McAvoy's carries stat does not provide the number of downs played. Wis connected on more passes, but the poster I was responding said Rogers like numbers. Incidently, the number of pass attempts per team was equal. If anyone has a source for actual division of playing time, I would like to see it before I provide a correction or mea culpa, if I feel that is necessary. The stats I have found do not answer the question of number of downs played.
Well put, and I agree. The idea that, yeah, we know he's not a passing quarterback, but we'll start him because he's big and he can run, and he should be able to complete a pass or two now and then, well that's just not modern football, and it doesn't take advantage of the way the rules are set up. In games like this, you need to be able to throw. That was true for both teams; one team was able to, and the other was not. And if you're not equipped to pass the ball, then you're not equipped to play in games like this against opponents like this for these types of stakes.

While agreed that passing would help, and we'd definitely be better if Mitch was well polished, you cannot ignore that we did play in this game.
Mitch did get them here. Is it the Brewster spread offense you want back? or possible the Wacker years?
I'll take the crappy passing and the chance to play for a big ten title over a decent passing and 4 wins any day.
I'll take the situation Kill left in Illinois - a diverse, dangerous offense with a quarterback good enough to end up on an NFL roster.
Unless my eyes deceived me, every single time I saw McEvoy (sorry for the spelling error earlier) he kept the ball. There may have been 1 time early in the 2nd quarter where he was in for three plays successively, where it was run, run, run, with a Gordon run in the middle bracketed by McEvoy runs, but I was pretty sure it was 5 plays, 5 carries.
The name of the game with Leidner is simple: no bleeping turnovers....ever
Today he cost us a big one. The game pivoted.
His margin for error is small. Probably too small.
edit: the deleted was a facetious and humorous attempt to lighten the situation.
i'm sorry my comments seemed to offend you indi, i don't mind your comments. you are upset and i will gladly accept your apology when you settle down. i'll even buy you a beer next year when the gophers come out to fort collins (hopfully you are still a gopher fan at that time)
