Disappointing crowd today at the bank!

That is a terrible excuse. The campus is easy to get to and because we are in a metro area the games should be sold out. We are not some hick town. The Twin Cities is a wealthy metro area. As far as the weather, today was the best day out of all of the home games. It is too bad it wasn't snowing sideways.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My guess is you'd get better attendance if the U were in another town where they were the kingpin. There is a lot of entertainment options that take away from Gopher sports.

I guess that I was most surprised with the empty seats after the 3rd quarter. Damn, that was a great game to stick it out at.
Defense was lights out. Mitch went out on home field like a champ too.
Very happy to have been in attendance.!

I was a little bummed about the attendance too today. It was definitely a day for the diehards and we were rewarded with a W. It seems like we play well in the cold at the Bank.

Where were the 12,000 no-shows? Watching the game in their pajamas in their living rooms?

Minnesotans have become soft. It was a great day to watch college football outdoors.

per Joe:

New attendance lows

The Gophers drew an announced crowd of 38,162, their smallest in eight seasons at TCF Bank Stadium. The team’s previous smallest attendance in the stadium was 44,194 for Michigan State on Nov. 24, 2012.

Average attendance for seven home dates this season was 43,814, which was the smallest since 2002, when the Gophers drew an average of 41,785 at the Metrodome. The team’s previous smallest average attendance at TCF Bank Stadium was 46,637 in 2012.

Last year, when the stadium had an expanded capacity for the Vikings, the Gophers averaged 52,355.

Go Gophers!!

We should also take into account that NU does not have a large traveling fan base. They are a small school comparatively speaking. So if we had been playing Iowa or Wisconsin today in TCF Bank, attendance might have been closer to 45,000 or even 50,000. More season ticket holders would have shown up for a cross state rivalry game, and the Hawkeye and Badger faithful would have traveled to the game and filled up TCF Bank. I don't like all those Badgers and Hawkeyes in TCF Bank Stadium, but until such time the Athletic Director stops alienating season ticket holders with unreasonable prices and extra tax, we should not be surprised at a Boston Tea Party reaction from the Golden Gopher faithful. Loved the victory today. Defense was awesome. I hope that after a couple years, the Jay Johnson offensive system will get better and better. We are a good Big Ten team. We are a respectable Big Ten team. We are 8-3 overall and 5-3 Big Ten. That is simply wonderful. Those who are still pining for Tracy Claeys to be removed don't have any sense of Golden Gopher football history since Murray Warmath was replaced. We are indeed very lucky to have Tracy Claeys for our head coach, and I do so hope that he is awarded a 5 year contract.

I've gotten to the point where I don't care how many fans are in the seats. I enjoy the games. That's why I go. I don't have to validate my hobby by hoping other people like it too. If others want to show up, great. The game still gets played and the people who want to be there are there.

That's a very good point. NU had only a handful of fans there.

Could be worse. Also the crowd at the WVU-OU game was pretty dismal with the weather....
normally that game would pack them in shoulder to shoulder.

True. We were right in front of the NW mascot and cheerleaders, and I bet all day I counted less than 20 NW fans at the stadium. And realistically, considering the weather, and going into a holiday week (when do classes go on break?), it's just not going to be a big draw unless it's a rivalry game, or OSU or Michigan.

Lol. So we're going to blame the stadium being half full on the VISITOR fans not showing up. I think we've reached a new low.

Totally agree. Also, Northwestern fans are lame. We had a few in our section wearing both Gophers and Northwestern gear. Of course they cover the mildcat gear when they they're coaching is awful and are getting beat up physically. Their fans like to think they're above the average fan. Good thing there's not many of them.
