Froze my a$$ off and still have cold legs and feet but I enjoyed the game. Guess at least 10,000 to 15,000 people that had tickets decided to show the team their a$$es and not to show up at the game today. Oh well, I had fun and was really excited how well the defense covered, created turnovers and rushed the passer today. Shannon Brooks is a horse when he get's the football. Not a knock on Rodney Smith, he could do a little less cutting or juking at times. Sometimes wish he would follow Shannon's look and duck under on the back side. Two fourth down stops (Should have been three) THAT WAS A GENEROUS BIG 10 SPOT BY THE OFFICIALS. At least live I thought the two defenders stopped him and with him catching the ball back in front of the yard marker that he should have been marked short.

Wish we could throw the ball a little better, with a few more weapons, non-predictable play calling this team could be explosive. Right now the Gophers have been playing some good football. Those that decided not to show up, you missed out on an entertaining Football game. Guess our fan base is really SAWFT. I know our history, but wish more folks cared. Go Gophers, and Ski-U-Mah.

The Kill and now Claeys regime have put a respectable product on the field. They have brought us up to a solid middle of the pack program with the potential for better. I know our offense can bog down but it's still not as bad as people make out. But while our football program is now middle of the big ten, our fan base remains one of the worst in the conference. This is a better program than this fan base deserves.

Yup.. less than 30,000. In regards to Smith. I posted that in the game tracker. He's trying to get to cute . That's why Brooks replaced him. And really., the weather wasn't that bad. The lack of fans really pissed me off.

Best crowd of the year in terms of energy to persons in seats ratio.

Get over it and focus on the win. Unless that also pissed you off. :D

Early in the game there were two sections with no a$$es in them and several more with a dozen or less butts. Regarding the good seats, I could make out 'Minnesota' on the home side seats. So yes, a very small crowd. I stayed until the bitter end and was rewarded with not only a win but got to watch a tree rat (a.k.a. squirrel) mill around amongst all the empty seats searching for discarded treasures.

I scalped an extra tix in a good location for $10 without any negotiations.

We upgraded our seats. Feeling finally returning to my feet

The roster lists Rodney as only 5 lbs. lighter than Shannon. Personally, I put him at about 15 lbs. lighter. In other words, IMO Rodney Smith's weight is exaggerated. Consequently, he needs to avoid tacklers when Shannon could hit them and slide past. JMO.

Smith is definitely shorter and lighter than Brooks. That said, he is a strong guy, he can spin and bounce off people as well as stiff arm. Just wish he would stay more in a straight line some times, that and turn the edge quicker. You need patience but pick your spot's where you use the spin or try and defeat the block, sometimes it is just better to get forward progress.
Gopher backs make a lot of plays on their own. Still wish the O-line would not get beat so much high. Our guy's still get stood up and get people slipping under them too easy. Gopher O-line still not up to Big 10 standards. Worried the Wisconsin D-line is going to be in the Gopher back field all game long. Have to sustain the blocks longer, and not get pushed aside so easy. Thought there would be a few more butts in the seats. This is never good for recruiting to have so few people in the stands, people think what is up with that? I could see Minnesota spelled out on the home sidelines, upstairs was really empty, you could almost count the people in some sections. Yes, that kind of ticked me off, but not a lot I can do about it.

Vikings can pee down their legs and lose a lot, back in or barely make the playoffs and never win hardly any playoff games in 16 years. Yet they the Vikings are considered huge success in this town. They have not been to a Super Bowl since 1977 so it is not like the Vikings have this huge history of recent winning, yet they are perceived winners. Vikings have never won the whole thing and the overall championship yet they are painted as winners and the event to be at in town.
I don't get it, the Vikings have a few stars and have had a few good seasons, but the reality is they don't really ever win anything, very few division titles in recent memory even. To me the Vikings success is overblown by the media in the Twin cities. The media paints them out to be better as a franchise then they really are. Yes they were once dominant like the Gophers, but in reality they have not won a damn thing in most of my life time. Vikings dynasty history is as old and almost as black and white and distant as the Gophers. Two years ago that team was awful, and even four years ago they were pretty brutal. There is definitely a double standard in media treatment in this town, Vikings eak out or barely win against a weak opponent and they are not piled on like the Gophers always are.

Rodney had one run where he broke tackle than instead of cutting up middle for smal gain bounced it outside for a loss

I was there and had a great time. Besides the bad officiating and the bad targeting call it was a great game.

Ski-U-Mah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+1 On the targeting call it was pretty hard to tell from the stands. What with that much delayed, 1 time, 3-4 second replay. Looked like he targeted where Carr was carrying the ball. On the post game both Fitzgerald and Claeys indicated they thought it was a good call.

Safe to say that McGee's targeting call as defined by the rules was legit.

It probably was but then you have to ban passes down the middle or have the players not wear helmets. This is going to continue to happen. The refs were still horrible as was the Gophers uniform combo.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is purely the result of the U being smack dab in the heart of a metro area that has 3 professional teams vying for ticket buyers. Folks keep hearkening back to a day when tickets were cheap and competition was slim. We live in a new era. Just enjoy the game and don't worry about who else shows up.

There has been a couple times where the defender was trying to hit the chest and the offensive player dropped lower. Today was one of those times. The defender did hit the helmet, but it was clearly not intended. It was, in my opinion, a "nothing you can do about it" hit.

I was there. It was my four year old son's first Gopher game. And we did leave after the third, and I won't apologize for it when my kid was freezing at that point. It was a fun game to be at though, and we had great seats too.

I can't say I was that surprised that the crowd was small. After years of indoor football, people don't want to sit outside in 28 degree weather with a windchill. That's just the way it is. As for the Vikings, NFL games are an event and a party - they're marketed like that. Most people I know who go to Vikings games go for the party, and less for the game (and that's true of almost all NFL games). And I wouldn't take my four year old to an NFL game either.

Great game! Wasn't pretty for most of it but got the W.

Agree those who were there WANTED to be there...so that's the hardcore fanbase...including about 4/10 of a student section.

Still, the Billds were pleased. Winning is better than losing.

Looked like Zombies must have swept through the Upper Level Student Section at Half Time. It was abandoned in the 2nd Half.

That is a terrible excuse. The campus is easy to get to and because we are in a metro area the games should be sold out. We are not some hick town. The Twin Cities is a wealthy metro area. As far as the weather, today was the best day out of all of the home games. It is too bad it wasn't snowing sideways.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree. Still have to dress for the occasion and the kids usually don't. Those that remained though were loud...especially after the targeting call and after.

Couldn't agree more. I love the Vikings, but fans seem so willing to embrace them and forget about past transgressions in an instant. The Gophers are a much tougher sell. And generating passion has a much longer wick for them. One interesting thing about following the Gophers... I moved away from Mpls over 10 years ago and refuse to buy the NFL package. From Atlanta, I can watch a live Gopher game almost every week and now have a much tighter allegiance to them because of it. Whereas the only live Vikings games I get is if they are on national TV or playing against a team in the Southeast.

Took my 6yo and we had a great time. It might be just me but I actually enjoy the cold games. It's fun to bundle up and bond with the other die hards. I did have to start making my way to the exit with 3 min left as my boy was freezing but once we got him moving he perked up and we watched the end from the lower seats. Fun game.

Me and Mrs. GoGophersRah were there (as always). We left our boys at home though, because I knew the whining would be intolerable. I haven't misses a home game since 2003 unless i was out of town for family obligations out of my control.

I was disappointed in the "fan" turnout and I'm guessing that the players were too.

Fortunately they didn't show it on the field if they were indeed disappointed.

Had a great time at the Game Looking forward to September!
