My guess is he felt he accomplished what he could here and left for somewhere that pays a little more and potentially has a slightly higher upside. The latter part could be debated but very possible Rossi perceived it that way.For a better job offer, or did PJ have a difficult breakfast conversation with him after a lackluster '23 defense stunk up the joint?
I don't think Fleck would have fired him after one down year with a defense that was decimated by injuries at LB.For a better job offer, or did PJ have a difficult breakfast conversation with him after a lackluster '23 defense stunk up the joint?
Rossi chose to leave for another job. Any claims otherwise are revisionist history. For a better job offer, or did PJ have a difficult breakfast conversation with him after a lackluster '23 defense stunk up the joint?
He left for MSU, yes. But why? Truly doubt it was money. We had an unspent assistant coach fund of money available. It's widely known that he left for MSU position.
It definitely was for money and a fresh start. I'm pretty sure he has had outside interest for the past handful of years. He left for MSU, yes. But why? Truly doubt it was money. We had an unspent assistant coach fund of money available.
When you look at his accomplishments at Minnesota ... Minnesota should not be letting him walk for a few dollars more. He has young boys...he professed how much the family loved the Twin Cities.
There is definitely more to this story. What it is - is speculation.
Maybe he wanted to recruit a linebacker and PJ wanted a wide receiver...there are a million possibilities...but PJ or Joe wasn't happy about something.
No doubt regarding the outside interest, before last year we were fielding elite defenses by the numbers. I'm surprised that he didn't land a head coach job because he'd be considered qualified for it based on his performance at the P5 level. It definitely was for money and a fresh start. I'm pretty sure he has had outside interest for the past handful of years.
Yes, he did. Rossi resigned from Michigan St. it’s a shock to everyone. People are trying to get more details. Stay tuned. We’ll get through this. For a better job offer, or did PJ have a difficult breakfast conversation with him after a lackluster '23 defense stunk up the joint?
Resigned from Michigan State? Wow I'm totally out of touch.Yes, he did. Rossi resigned from Michigan St. it’s a shock to everyone. People are trying to get more details. Stay tuned. We’ll get through this.
Did I miss a joke?Yes, he did. Rossi resigned from Michigan St. it’s a shock to everyone. People are trying to get more details. Stay tuned. We’ll get through this.
Rossi, never truly "left MN." In the day and age of transfer portal and NIL one of the best things coaches can do is build relationships with programs that are highly susceptible to being pillaged. Becoming a DC at MSU has let Rossi gather valuable insight, relationship and report with the players there. Same things with KC as OC at Rutgers. Rossi has not "resigned from MSU yet, Some Day...Maybe is just letting the cat out of the bag early. This won't happen till after the season.Yes, he did. I went to the Google machine...they have zero details about this. You breaking news, here?Yes, he did. Rossi resigned from Michigan St. it’s a shock to everyone. People are trying to get more details. Stay tuned. We’ll get through this.
And if PJ were leaving...he had a pretty good case to be the next head coach at Minnesota.Another angle. Let's say PJ was having conversations with UCLA and Rossi is aware of it. So, MSU was knocking on a few doors and he decides to take the call. After an interview and some conversations he's like you're willing to pay $$$ and your NIL budget is that. Although PJs is now staying, I can't pass this up. Some would say why wouldn't he follow PJ to UCLA if it happened, but he does have kids and he may have been like I have no desire to be in LA at the time. Just tossing something out there.
Might be some proof that Fleck isn't just blowing smoke when he says he wants to be here for the long haul. If Rossi really believed Fleck was going to leave soon on his own then it would make sense to stick it out and be in position to get the head job.And if PJ were leaving...he had a pretty good case to be the next head coach at Minnesota.
Rossi still would be a prime replacement candidate, especially if he does well in East Lansing.Might be some proof that Fleck isn't just blowing smoke when he says he wants to be here for the long haul. True, but if stayed here until Fleck got fired he would be much less of a candidate then he would be if Fleck left on his own or he was coming from somewhere else.Rossi still would be a prime replacement candidate, especially if he does well in East Lansing.
Rossi left in December. I think the UCLA rumors were in February.Another angle. Let's say PJ was having conversations with UCLA and Rossi is aware of it. IMO 300 grand a year more and more financial support from the school are good reasons to leave. He left for MSU, yes. But why? Truly doubt it was money. We had an unspent assistant coach fund of money available.
