Deputy AD John Cunningham leaving

The Athletic (subscription required) is reporting that our deputy AD John Cunningham has been hired to become the new AD at Cincinnati. It seems to be a nice promotion for him.

Cunningham joined the Gophers in July 2016 to work alongside newly hired athletic director Mark Coyle, whom Cunningham had previously served under while Coyle was AD at Syracuse and Boise State. Cunningham oversaw the day-to-day administrative operations at Minnesota, including all 25 athletics programs and external units.
 

Don't know anything about the guy, but I'm assuming that means the U's athletic department is viewed as "good" from the outside, or he wouldn't be hired away for a promotion. Hopefully they have a succession plan (Coyle claims he always does), and can replace him without missing a beat.
 

Long time in coming.

He was always opposed to removing the heating Coyles, but they did it anyway.

I read on here the coils were removed and other posts that they are there. Idk what to think anymore...
 


This thread is so emblematic of our culture’s obsession with the one on top. Nobody responded at all for a day, then it’s just a bunch of puns on his former boss’ name.

This man, who most of us have never heard of, probably was functionally every bit as important to Gopher athletics as Coyle. Now he will no longer be invisible in Cincy.

Come on Slab. What is the point of this board if can’t have a serious discussion about John Cunningham?
 

He will probably be hiring a new football coach after next year. Adam Sandler’s twin brother has done a great job at Cincy. P5 coach in waiting.

Never liked him. We will do better.
 

Had nothing but positive interactions with John during his time here. Coyle has a good team in his upper staff levels and Cincinnati is lucky to get him. Bearcats gain is our loss, but this is just like a good assistant coach getting a chance to move on to lead his own program.
