December 2024 NCAA Women's Volleyball Portal

Woah, Ramsey Gary is in the portal, too. Didn't know that one.

Eva Hudson is signing with Kentucky. She'll team with Brooklyn DeLeye to give Kentucky the best pair of hitters in the country. Damn, she would have looked nice in Maroon and Gold.

We don't need any more OHs, especially not ones with dubious character.

I'm starting to think you're a troll Ruffda. Have you seen Hudson play? And seriously, who's hitter #3 behind Hanson and Wucherer? Plus wookies health is not a given. I don't feel great going into 2025 relying on Crowl, Acevedo, Schickels, Oliva Swenson or a freshman we've never seen at this level. Give me a proven baller for year while one of them proves their mettle.

Maybe in a couple of years if we can devleop players and hire the correct assistant coaches, we might be able to start recruiting like these Top Programs 3-4 players every season to fill the needed positions of out going players. Yes, it sure would be nice, wouldn't it?

We are in a dvelopment stage with our roster and that is going to continue. I am probably going to offend people, but it appears we are recruiting to JUST FILL A ROSTER. How many of those on the roster have not seen playing time or very little and for how many years already. Many of them are not in our everyday talk to start next season either nor be able to make any impact, if they did.

So far I feel this program develops players and then they move on. These so-called All Star teams recruit and don't need to develop. They are ready to play every season to win a Natty.

Hugh leaving had more of an impact on this prgram than we want to admit. Also, I wish he would have considered retiring at the end of the season, not when he did. It might have made a small difference. However, we will never know.

I don't cheer for the uniform and I don't cheer for STARTERS who jump ship unless there's a darn good reason for it.

So you're OK with bringing in transfers over your recruits? What are we, Badger fans?

If you intend to compete in the current landscape you need to recruit good HS players, develop the players you have, and supplement where needed from the portal. I know you don't care for the portal but it is what it is. I want the team to win at a high level. Sorry, but I don't buy season tickets to watch the girls study for their exams or volunteer tutoring children. It's not that I don't think those things are important, I do. The gals that graduated this year were great students and I'm proud of them. At the same time I'd bet a lot of money that the girls Iowa graduated were awesome young women too. They stunk on the floor and their arena was empty. I don't want that type of program. And by the way, three of the senior we graduated this year were transfers. I'm so happy to have had the chance to cheer on Phoebe Awoleye, Lydia Grote, and Elise McGhie.

Many fans are sad to see KK go. I am beginning to wonder how much of an impact she really had with our recent recruiting. I am pretty sure she was involved the most with Awoleye coming here. KCook probably with Grote and his former ties to the PAC. Wasn't it the former Assistant Coach that traveled to Turkey to bring Z here?

I want someone hired who has a GREAT track record for recruiting. We have to start getting back into the mix, if we are going to get back to a Top Ten program. As Hugh stated one time, "we need to recruit both Minnesota players and outside the state." It appears the next two seasons are a combination of that.

Hudson is a one year player. Shopping for a championship. No thanks. We are better than that. That is Badger ball. If this changes, I am no longer a Gopher fan.

The only player who was only going to play one year was Aloweye and she played two. We also had to replace Booth (don't get me started on her) so apples and oranges to Hudson.

I'd rather cheer for Iowa than Wisconsin. Sue me

I will say that all these players' situations are unique. I know that. I wouldn't want to make a blanket statement about them. But hard passes on Hudson and Chicoine.

OK Ruff, you win. Your backup setter next year is Chloe Ng. Your middles are Minatee who is short and inconsistent, Engeman who is slightly taller but far less talented and a freshman who may or not be able to play. Your 3rd hitter is either one of four hitters currently on the roster who appear to be mediocre at best or an incoming freshman. That's a lot of question marks. God forbid any of the top players get injured. At least we won't have to cheer for any jerseys. Sorry,
I mean transfers.

Well if that's your tone I'll reply in kind. Is winning the only thing that matters to you? How you win doesn't even enter it?

Sorry. I don't want to take the Texas or PSU route.

Also, please stop with the strawmen. There are extremes. I vote for somewhere in the middle, but the fewer transfers the better. This is also how you build loyalty. Maybe that doesn't matter anymore but it should.

FYI....I told everybody Wisconsin adds other players from other BIG teams a lot. Add another...

He wrote on X, “Newest @BadgerVB is Aniya Warren, a 5-8 libero from Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois. Recently decommitted from Purdue.” Thus, it was quite a blow for Purdue, who have seen numerous talented players depart from their side after the opening of their portal.

I like the Purdue team and enjoy cheering for them when Gophers are not playing. However, the PORTAL is now probably starting to "destroy" their program too. I am not afraid to say she was more than likely approached by the Wisconsin's recruiters and couldn't resist their offer. It is more sad news for Purdue.

Yes another Libero out of Benet Academy besides LB. Sorry (R) uffda your days of Loyalty are long gone in Volleyball as in MANY programs.

I would love to go back to the days when there were very few transfers. I love seeing these players come in as Freshmen and get better each year. That is still going to be a big part of most programs. We have 4 freshmen coming in next season and I'm excited to see them. That said, if you wish to win at a high level you need to use every tool you have to build your team. The portal is a tool. If you don't use it you're probably going to struggle to be any better than middle of the pack. That is not what I want. If that makes me shallow so be it.

It's not everything but yes, it is the most important thing. Coaches don't get fired because the team GPA was lousy nor do fans give up their tickets for those reasons. I don't want to turn over half the team every year just to chase wins but I'm not going to be happy if they ignore the portal and finish in the bottom half of the Big every year either. They would not have even sniffed the NCAA Tournament the last 2 years without Murr, Grote, Awoleye, Thibault, and Acevedo. Had that happened fans would be screaming for Cooks head. I suspect that chorus might include your voice Ruff. I for one, would not blame you if it did.

I personally am not familiar with her. Go ahead and inform me what you know of this player.
Nothing other than the matches that I've watched her play when she was with Indiana. She was rather impressive though. At least I though so.

She's very good. Not a position of need for the Gophers though. I'm happy to roll with Zeynep.

I see Sheffield is stealing recruits now. How can anyone support that program without taking a shower 4x daily?

That fills our one area of pressing need. If we need to I'm willing to roll with what we already have in the program. Would still like an experienced middle and a hitter but a setter was critical.
