Redshirt freshman Nick Janowski led the Tommies with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Wednesday Eye-Openers (upsets, importance, MOV, etc.)
-- @ Minnesota 73, Indiana 64: I did not see this one coming from the injury-ravaged Gophers, but congratulations to Niko Medved and his squad. It's still likely a tough season ahead, but last night was a taste of what's to come with Medved. His teams will compete and move the ball, no matter the talent level. He's the right guy, the one that should've been hired four seasons ago. He's a builder -- yes, a coach can still be a builder -- even in this era of Wild, Wild West, free-agency college athletics.

-- Virginia 88, @ Texas 69: My season expectations for Texas weren't that high in the first place, but getting boat-raced on their home floor by the 'Hoos wasn't on my Bingo card. All signs point toward a long Season 1 for Sean Miller in Austin.

Dribbles & Scribbles
-- The season still has a long, long way to go, but having now seen every Summit League team play at least once I feel quite confident saying one of St. Thomas, North Dakota State, or South Dakota State (in that order) will be the Summit League's representative in the NCAA Tournament. They're the only teams I can see putting together three straight wins (in 4 days) together in Sioux Falls. Denver will be the team no one wants to play.

-- The SEC came storming back to win the ACC/SEC Challenge 9-7, winning 6 of the 7 Wednesday matchups. Arkansas (Louisville), Alabama (Clemson), and Auburn (NC State) picked up the pivotal wins, all at home.

-- I was high on San Francisco in the preseason, but the Dons have been a major disappointment thus far. The Dons are 4-4 and have lost three straight (Colorado, Nevada, North Alabama) since beating the Gophers in Sioux Falls. Their at-large hopes pretty much already are down the drain.

-- The Big West starts conference play tonight with five matchups. Hawaii, UC-Davis, UC-Irvine, and UC-San Diego are the teams to watch early on.

Deep Thoughts, by Buzz Studley
Robbie Hummel is at the very top of college basketball analysts. The consummate pro. At worst, top 3. Shon Morris (BTN), LaPhonso Ellis (FOX/FS1), Steve Lappas (CBS), and Jim Spanarkel (CBS), among others, join Hummel in the top tier.
