David Fricking Cobb!!!

I think that's a great way of putting it. David Cobb is a very, very good back running behind a very, very good run-blocking line. Great combination.

I can't wait until next year with JJ. (no disrespect to Cobb, as this year is incredibly fun to watch)

He has benefitted from really good line play, but I vastly underestimated just how good he is.

Definitely have to credit the line whenever a RB is putting up good numbers. That being said a lot of credit needs to go to Cobb as well because the other guys are not having nearly the success running behind the same line as Cobb is to this point.

Cobb should certainly be in the conversation for top RB and All-American at this point. He won't be in the Heisman talk because he isn't flashy enough (unlike an Abdulah from Nebraska) but that is just fine with me if he keeps doing what he has to this point.

Interesting looking at the stats. 3 of the top 4 rushers in the NCAA are Big Ten (Cobb #3, Abdullah #1, Coleman (Hoosiers) #4, and Gordon (stinking badgers) #7).

Does not go down at first contact. Always gives credit to his Oline. Smart man.

Humble guy, gives credit to his O-line at all times. This kid get's it, I am a big #27 fan, Cobb for Heisman why not?

#5 is playing for an ex-B1G coach.

The thing about Cobb is that he is deceptively fast, has great power, but most importantly, has great vision. He is a combination of Maroney and Barber. Not saying he is in their category yet, but had he put it all together earlier in his career, he would very close. Honestly, I see Ameer doing ok in the NFL (ala Reggie Bush), but I see Cobb doing better because of his size.

He does everything well and is a really nice combination of all your desired RB traits. If he had just a little more wiggle he'd be amazing but he's a really patient back with good burst and his lost weight this off-season has definitely helped him. I think he's genuinely humble too and very focused out there which helps him to stay within himself. He's definitely an NFL back, though who knows to what extent.

I don't see much similarity at all between Cobb and Maroney, he reminds me a great deal of Barber though, and that is obviously a good thing. Decent size, speed, good all around player only really lacking in that true breakaway speed. I would take that makeup in a RB any day of the week.

He's a bull. Never goes down on first contact. Fights for every yard. Sometimes busts out of the first wrap for big yards. He's a fun player to watch. No doubt that he get's drafted next spring.

He brings to mind that old saying people used to describe Leroy Horde, but with better math...

If you need 2 yards, he'll get you 12.
If you need 20 yards, he'll get you 12.

He did a great job exploiting holes last year. This year he is doing that, AND breaking more tackles while creating his own holes.

Great shot from TheDailyGopher of him truckin'

Back up to #4 in the nation in rushing as the "number of games played" evens out (sans Gordon).

http://espn.go.com/college-football.../rushing/sort/rushingYards/year/2014/group/80

1 Tevin Coleman, RB IND 1192
2 Melvin Gordon, RB WIS 1046
3 Ameer Abdullah, RB NEB 1024
4 David Cobb, RB MINN 1013
5 Thomas Rawls, RB CMU 1007
6 Jarvion Franklin, RB WMU 992
7 Donnel Pumphrey, RB SDSU 989
8 James Conner, RB PITT 959
9 Devon Johnson, RB MRSH 931
10 Anthone Taylor, RB BUFF 926

Too bad the other Top 3 are B1G. In any other year, Cobb would be up for Player of the Year in the B1G.

If gophers win the west and either play well or win the big ten championship game, I suspect his chances of winning it will be very high despite what the other backs in the Big do. Gophers wouldn't be anywhere near successful without Cobb

So there are no SEC rushers on that top 10? Hmmmm food for thought... But way to go Cobb!
