David A Thompson is no Gopher fan....

So, he got more than half of his votes in the most populous counties in the state - what's wrong with that? We don't have an electoral college system where you need to win the most counties, you need the most votes. He got them. Winning Hennepin County SHOULD count for a lot more than winning small counties in outstate Minnesota because it contains more people.

Yeah I was just making a statement about the irony of calling out Thompson as having the exact supposed qualities as the current governor and then saying he could never be governor.

Thanks to 2727 for pointing out the lunacy in complaining about a guy winning an election by total number of votes. The alternative system of counting Hennepin County the same as Aitkin County in an electoral college process would ensure people living in rural areas have 100x the voting power of those in urbanized ones.

I don't understand how he can be considered an outspoken critic of increased government spending when he was very pro Vikings stadium subsidy?

I'm a lobbyist and I'll admit I didn't follow the Vikings' stadium issue as closely as most. I didn't have a horse in that race.

But Thompson voted against the final bill and was, as I recall, along with Senator Sean Nienow one of the most vocal critics of the effort. Thompson and I don't share the same philosophy and he seldom votes the way of my clients, but the guy is one of the more honest and straightforward legislators in the place. What you see is what you get and he's not unpleasant when he disagrees.

I'll let the Republicans decide if the's the best of the approximately 50 candidates who are going to emerge in the quest for the nomination.
