Dave Lee opinion poll

As a former member of the Gophers (successful walk-on in 1974) and award winning football play-by-play sportscaster I understand the importance of the Gopher's radio broadcast to anyone interested in the University of Minnesota football program. This is often the only link for the fans to be a part of the excitement of game day and to not get a feel for the game and the pagentry associated with the Gophers would surely be disapointing. We have all been spoiled by Ray Christensen's rich voice and articulate delivery which made our Saturday Gopher games complete. Hopefully someday that will return to Gopher football broadcasts.

people have no idea what his working conditions are.

I'm curious, what are these horrible conditions? Since you seem to know and clearly we have no idea, can you enlighten us?

Someone should get a tape of the badgers guy Lepay? and Dave Lee calling he game next year. Splice together plays called by each guy, and send it to the new AD when we get one.

He probably means he doesn't have a spotter. Didn't seem to bother Ray too much. I agree with those who say Dave Lee is a nice guy and has a great morning show. I even like his personality on game day broadcasts. I, like most others here, just don't think he's up to the task on PBP.

He probably means he doesn't have a spotter.

He's been in the business for a long time. Why can't he find a spotter? There are probably 20 people on this board who would volunteer to do it.

The fact of the matter is, the Gopher play-by-play guy:

--gets 40-pages of gamenotes about each team each week written by someone else
--has access to practice anytime he wants
--has not one, but two color commentators to help him on the broadcasts
--uses a top notch engineer so he doesn't have technical worries
--doesn't even have to bother with hosting a pre game or post game show
--views the game from a warm, comfy press box from the 50-yard line
--has access to stats, bios, news stories, background on anything he cares to dig up
--travels via charter jet to/from each road game

So, yeah, I'm surprised the radio crew hasn't filed a grievance for poor working conditions.

Any ideas about who I could contact about putting my name in for consideration should there be a change in the Gopher radio play-by-play sportscaster? I'm very serious about this and would love to return to The U.

Lee does not put much work into his preparation. Absolutely no excuse for that.

Paul Allen is also a bad announcer but he does his homework.

Ya nailed it. D Lee sounds like he does 0 prep. That first away game where he kept calling Dajon Mcknight as the RB was the final straw.

he's absolutely awful. and unfortunately for him his incompetence is magnified by those of us who clearly remember ray christensen's brilliance.

Can't listen to him. Doesn't matter if it's early am (he tries too hard to be cute, clever, and hip) or during games (where there are just too many mistakes) .. For the improvement of the football program - he needs to go. This years gem for me... He announced a Gopher TD in the corner of the endzone as caught by MarQuies Gray ... He continued on and on about Gray makiing such a great catch on the fade route, while describing in detail what had taken place. Pause ... He then says something about now THEY are saying it was caught by Da'Jon McKnight ... He then (sounding dumbfounded) tries to justify his obvious mistake with a comment or two about when the Gophers throw a fade to the corner it's always been thrown to MarQueis Gray .... Very lame.

I like him on the morning show, but he is not a sportscaster. I just don't think he can paint a picture of the action very well. I have to believe that by putting it in the survey we will see a change.
