Taylor Runs to Third Straight B1G Freshman of the Week Honor

University of Minnesota running back Darius Taylor was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the third straight week today after a standout performance at Northwestern.

He is the first Gopher ever to receive the honor three straight weeks and the second ever to be honored three times in a season, joining Shannon Brooks who was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times in 2015.

Taylor is the first Big Ten student-athlete to receive the honor three straight weeks since Wisconsin’s running back Jonathan Taylor in 2017.

Taylor had 216 all-purpose yards at Northwestern as he rushed for 198 yards and had 18 yards receiving. His 216 all-purpose yards came in his fourth career game and ranks 44th in school history. It was his second game this season with more than 200 all-purpose yards as he also had 206 against Eastern Michigan.

Taylor leads the Big Ten in rushing yards (532) and attempts (87) and is tied for sixth in the Big Ten in rushing yards per carry (6.1 ypc) and touchdowns (4).

Go Gophers!!

Great for him when other schools come calling. If our defense can't figure it out, we will need more that a RB carrying the ball 30 times a game.

Tremendous accomplishment for one so early in his career! Unfortunately, right now Darius Taylor's accomplishments are reminding me of Nate "Tiny" Archibald's accomplishments when he played for the 1972-73 Kansas City-Omaha Kings. Hopefully, the Gophers will recover from Saturday's disaster like they recovered from the Bowling Green game 2 years ago.

Fleck did his presser Monday. was asked about Taylor's injury status and said "You'll find out two hours before the game."

so looks like we wait until the injury report/availability report is released at 9:00am on Saturday.

Maximum NIL money waiting for him next year
Maybe?

I would imagine the RB market in college is a little like the NFL RB market. The age 30 factor isn't there but running backs still have fungibility in college. Look at the conga line of guys the Gophers used in 2021 to get about the same result as Mo Ibrahim.

It would be risky for Taylor to leave a Big Ten program where he's The Man, where they love to run the ball and feature a single back. If he stays healthy and for 4 years he's got a great shot to break Ibrahim's records.

Look how many G5 guys have transferred here after being all-conference and rode the pine.

Problem is that it worked well for Bucky Irving…. The poachers will be working him.

technically he could follow in Irving's footsteps and not leave a B1G program next year

Big secret to keep from the Ragin' Cajuns - and the gamblers.

I’m going to enjoy watching Taylor every game! he has the patients of some recent Gopher greats to break the line but a bit better speed in the open.
