Danny Collins

It sucks when a Power 4 team hires coordinators that learn on the job with no prior coordinator experience. That hadn't been the case under Fleck until Harbaugh and Collins. Harbaugh seems to be figuring it out but it's taken a while. Will we need to wait for another two years for the defense to be competent?

He is the DC now....bumping him to co-dc would not involve a promotion with more money.

Ceremonial title thing was more about what gets done with coaches all over the country. where guys are given new titles and pay raises.

Then why did you respond to my post like you did? The only thing I can think of is that I criticized your previous post and therefore you felt compelled to reply. That's about how everything works nowadays when communicating.

lol...so looking at the comments I think I floated the idea of bumping him to co-dc and getting someone else.....which you read as in some way giving him a promotion.....to which I made a comment about the titles thing that teams do.....and there we go..... :)

In the specific case of Collins a move to co-DC would not be a promotion so would therefore not be a move that would include any sort of pay bump above and beyond what he is currently getting as a DC who is being paid at the low end of the coordinator ranks.

Hahaha ha. Way to back up a bad post by digging yourself even deeperm

Give us some examples of guys getting fired for performance but keeping the ceremonial title to "get more money for assistants. "

Then, if that happened, tell us how the team benefitted from wasting the extra money you got on a guy you don't want in the job in the first place. Wouldn't you want to take that extra money and, I'm just spitballing here, spend it on a guy or guys you DO want?

I'm fairly consistent with giving credit when it's due and being critical when it's not. Harbaugh is allowed to call a decent to good game and deserves some credit when he does, such as today. Yes, he's had some head scratchers this year, but again, this wasn't a "little sisters of the poor" defense we were facing. If you give the guy good pieces, such as a balanced offensive line who can both run and pass block and skill players who can avoid injury (looking at the rb stable), he can call the types of games that keep us in the upper third to half of the conference in the W/L column.

Defense, on the other hand, has been an abomination. Today was by far the worst performance I've seen this season in terms of zero pass rush and no pressure generated when blitzing, leading to tons of opportunities in the backfield. We may as well have committed to three man rushes the entire game for all the good we did, Stone looked like Brees when he's been a JJ McCarthy all year.

Collins needs to be demoted back to safeties coach and we need to hire a dedicated, experienced DC.
I’m willing to bet that they are both back next year.

I think successfully hiring less experienced coordinators usually happens when the head coach is a great strategist and game planner so he can teach young coordinators their job. I don’t think Fleck is that guy. He’s more of a CEO type and needs to hire coordinators that already know how to do their jobs.

So...to recap: they sucked to start the game, contributing to falling behind yet again.
Then, after recovering nicely (with help from STs), they let a 15 pt lead turn into a 7 pt deficit while shitting the bed.

The offense played it's role in the loss.
They punted TWICE and had no offensive turnovers, yet both punts were at exactly the wrong time? Or is it just that any time they punt, it's easy to come up with a reason for it being the wrong time? They had a 15-point lead after their slow start. I think any of us will take a 15-point lead in a game any way we can get it! If they'd punted on their second possession, you could just say they started off the game hot and then let the momentum slip away. You can't seriously expect THE GOPHERS to score every time they have the ball?

I do agree that the offense played a role in the loss. Their role was +/-5%. They lost because of terrible defense and a bad kicker. This one is a pretty easy call, let's not make it difficult.

Well, since you are giant know it all turd, that never figured life out, I'll help you. The point of being in the best part of Chicago near Wrigley is to have a few, so yes I had six Old Styles, so send me to jail. Had the game not been pissed away, I would have had a couple more, maybe even a Goose Island.

Did you bother to make the effort to get to Chicago to attend the game? It is really easy to get to Chicago.

Typing on a phone while sitting on a crowded, shifting train car, then re-checking the post, is not my strength, but keep being a pompous, self righteous asshole as usual.

I resemble that remark

Brewed in God's country. Six of those is like maybe 2 1/2 regular beers. 😀

I'm sure Danny is a nice guy, but he shouldn't be the DC after this season. This team(the defense) might not be super dooper talented, but they can't be as bad as they've looked this year. They are brutal. Literally this is Jim Wacker-like defense this season. Can't continue to happen. When you aren't able to recruit high end offensive talent, or run a system that consistently puts up lots of points, then your defense must be fundamentally sound and keep you in games. This year we have basically been down 14-0 in almost every game we've played.

The O coordinator shouldn’t get a pass either we are on a historic run might be the worst rushing offense ever for the squad? I get the OL challenges, but the play designs handing the ball off to a RB who has his feet stopped out of the shotgun is just silly.

Agree!! We haven't been able to run the ball for 2 years now...

H ah ha ha ...e Chicago is still the best though.. even for the pompous, self righteous ones .. ha ha ha ha

even when choking down Old Style, which tasted pretty good for a while Saturday!

I appreciate all kinds of beer…I can recall those awesome Old Style On Tap signs hanging on perpendicular rods over the bar doors in my youth. I wonder if those are still around.

Go back and watch the crossing route to #80 that went for a long play in the 3rd quarter and try to tell what the hell Mike Gerald was doing…

They’re in man coverage and he doesn't go with his man…
That’s because hi DC is a clown and is way over his head.

You want him getting more money? For failing at his job and being demoted? He should be so lucky as to be able to go back to his old job with the salary it garnered.

That would be us being very nice to him.
More money as a position coach so It's not really a significant drop off from being DC.
