Danny Collins to DC per RB

KOC should probably move to the booth.
There are interesting stats like;
An offensive play caller / head coach hasn’t won a national title since Jimbo fisher

But then you have to consider here are the coaches who have won national titles since jimbo fisher:
Urban Meyer who didn’t call plays but did when he wanted to
Nick saban
Dabo swinney
Ed Orgeron
Kirby Smart
Jim Harbaugh who didn’t call plays but did when he wanted to

I’m not sure that stat tells you much other than college football is dominated by a few coaches and programs who don’t happen to call the offensive plays

He took action. He fixed it. I'd say that was one of his high points.
I don't disagree, but it's still a 33% failure rate when picking DCs.

I'm not against the mulligan approach. I am not above one especially on the 1st tee/Breakfast Ball, just as Smith was Fleck's first DC at the Big 10 level.

He failed in the pick. He grew, part of his whole philosophy.

Remember the titans style. Blitz every single down. Just do that and we will be fine

Joe Paterno did.

But history will more rightly remember him for other things he didn't do.
Holtz did for a game or two, but I think that it was because he was having back problems ore something. IIRC a guy named Bill Peterson did this at Florida State or maybe it was Darrell Mudra. Anyway they were ridiculed for it. Go Gophers! Edit: looks like Mudra regularly coached from the press box. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darrell_Mudra

It always sucks to lose a good coach and have to begin again. But PJ is building a coaching tree. People in the industry see this. All the talented young guys in the industry are going to be applying to be position coaches here because they see people moving up here. Belichick used to say that he had to throw away resumes of great young coaches who wanted to be there because he had piles of them. Good problem to have.

Coordinators for the most part live out of suitcases as they are typically fall guys. Other than Iowa because of their culture and longest tenured coach in college football, change is inevitable.

Michigan will be going on their 5th DC in 6 years as the NFL is coming for their DC.

Position coaches tend to be more culture guys that can stick around with a HC.

Philosophically, I've always liked having a secondary coach as the DC and play caller. I think Saban being a DB's coach was a secret ingredient during the Bama DeathStar years.

I really hope he can compensate for what will likely be, once again, a very underwhelming LB room unless Williams and Baranowski can make big improvements (and if the transfer kid can play well)

After watching a 38-year-old Chris Shula kick the Vikings ass. I see no reason a 35-year-old Danny Collins shouldn't get a chance.
