Daniel Edozie a Gopher commit, per Amelia UPDATED (11/26) Edozie signs with Iowa St

I don't know how you found it, GII, but that is the one that Northpoint and I referred to.

I wonder what car wash he is working at?

I believe he's actually a very successful politician..

What I don't understand about the whole situation is that Edozie allegedly called Tubby Smith to commit:

Junior college big man Daniel Edozie called coach Tubby Smith and made a verbal commitment to Minnesota on Wednesday morning. The forward officially visited Minnesota last weekend. -from Amelia Rayno blog October 3.

From October 3-October 8, nobody from the Gophers Basketball staff corrected this record? Tubby/Jirsa allegedly went and watched Edozie play that weekend, it seems like some contact would have been made regarding the scholarship "offer" prior to the staff travelling down to Texas to watch a recruit who accepted an offer that did not exist.

Something doesn't add up in this situation.

Huh? Who are you giving props to Mr. Duggan? And why?

I was just responding to someone who said the Gophers offered Edozie and then pulled his scholarship was true because one person "in the know" said so. Then another person "in the know" said something different.

So are we going to accept this or are people going to just believe what they want to believe anyway cause they already have their opinions in place?

Misconstrued in what way? It is difficult to confuse "We'd like to make you an offer" with "There may be an offer forthcoming down the road if you perform well". Also, unless Amelia is incorrect, Edozie called Tubby to accept the offer

No way of knowing if this is what happened, but saying "We would really like for you to play for our team" could be interpreted in more than one way. Some may take it as an offer while others may not. English can be a little ambiguous sometimes.

How about this? Jirsa tells Edozie something like “You are really the type of player that Coach Smith wants to have as part of our program. The University of Minnesota is a wonderful school and the Twin Cities metro area is one of the best possible places for you to pursue your college education and life beyond.” Kid really wants an offer and interprets Jirsa’s remark, intended to make sure Edozie stays interested, as an invitation to become a Gopher. Kid calls Tubby and says “I spoke to Coach Jirsa about all that Minnesota has to offer and have decided to accept the scholarship offer.” Tubby, having not been told there was any offer, says “Uhh, okay then,” and proceeds to immediately track down Jirsa to see what’s going on. Jirsa tells Tubby what happened and, rather than calling the kid and telling him he’s got it wrong, they take some responsibility for the miscommunication and figure they owe it to the kid and his coach to explain the situation face-to-face. That happens and they agree to let the kid characterize it as a de-commitment in a way that helps him save face a bit.

Doesn’t that scenario make sense?

Edozie is visiting Iowa State this weekend, per ISU Recruiting Lists. Maybe another Gopher commit ends up in Ames? :)

I may be way off base but could the de-commitment have anything to do with the commitment of Foster? When Edozie committed we had no momentum on any other players. It had been weeks since Hayes, Foster, Miller, and Shilling made official visits. After Edozie de-commits, Foster commits. Now we had a good chance of landing Shilling, plus Hayes hasn't committed. My theory is that they did offer Edozie. Shoot they were actually looking at Reggie Lynch, which could've been an all-time low if Tubby offered. But once they learned Foster was ready to commit they hurried up and pulled the offer. My guess is they wanted to hold that last scholarship for Shilling, Hayes, or possibly Miller (he did go on his official visit at the same time as Foster, Ellis) and weren't as desperate for bodies once Foster committed. Like I said I could be way off but it's just my twist on the many theories that's been posted on this thread.

Could it have been a conditional offer and when Foster commited it was rescinded and Edozie just spoke to soon.

Hayes has another local PF with an offer at OS ranked higher than him. Timing is everything and probably the reason we got Andre.

I'm still feeling good about Gavin or Hayes.

The Mayor can take any player and turn that player into a player.

Was trying to decipher who the mystery player the Gophers offered was (according to Doogie's recent article) and had no luck. However, I did find Daniel Edozie's stats for this season and the big fella is struggling: http://stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2012-13/div1/players/danieledozie8399

Maybe he's the type of kid who will be better as he gets older, but 5.8 ppg on 47.3% from the field, with 6.7 rebounds per game has to be a little eye opening for a high major recruit. Further, Edozie has been credited with just 8 blocks all season.
