Cole Aldrich answers Five Questions from the Sporting News readers; it hurts to see the Gophers listed as one of his finalists, and you wonder how good this year’s team would be with him at center:

Jeff Goodman presents 25 college players that will emerge this season in our consciousness (if not already there):

I’ve been wondering how big of a fall Arizona State will take with James Harden no longer in Tempe, but Goodman gives us a solid argument that Herb Sendek will have the Sun Devils relevant again soon:

Here’s some recruiting commitments from the weekend, with UNC landing Bob McAdoo’s highly acclaimed nephew James for the 2011 class and Indiana getting their second recruit in the class of 2010:

Andy Katz presents an argument (one I’m not buying) that Rick Pitino’s hiring of an assistant high school coach wasn’t all about recruiting a player; but what struck me most about this blog was that Pitino has 11 members on his staff now at Louisville. All jokes about restaurant trysts aside, what in the world does Pitino need 10 coaches/assistants/special assistants for?

Finally, the Kentucky fan base is once again making their state and university look proud:

The irony of that is Dean Smith swore he would never recruit another Juco after Bob McAdoo as he was unhappy with McAdoo all season long and the fact he left UNC early.

UofL needs Teague and some positive publicity. Hiring this coach (who I also understand has a very close relationship with the Teague's family and may be related to them in some way) is a calculated move on his part.

Somebody has never ventured over to the Off-Topic board here at the Gopherhole. Listen, I don't agree with some of this nonsense (and many others feel the same way despite their political leanings) but this is what happens when you interject politics in any situation. Like it or not, the President has become a divisive figure in this country. I got a phone call last night from our school district asking us if we would like our child to "opt out" of the President's speech (a President both my wife and I voted for) on education.

When the President of the United States of America can't even make a speech to children about the merits of working hard and staying in school without creating a firestorm of controversy you should realize that something as innocuous as this is going to rouse similar feelings.

Welcome back The Truth. I am glad that you see this. Many of us said that Tubby was a victim of racism at UK. Do you see why Tubby is so much happier here in MN? People are really nice here. Cold weather is not too bad. You should move up here. Its good for your kids too since they will grow up with rather intelligent MN kids.

Twin Cities >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lexington in terms of lifestyle, education, stuff 2 do, etc.

EXCEPT for 3 weeks in April and 3 weeks in October (when Keeneland racetrack is running).

I hate to break it to you fella but racism exists everywhere and within every fanbase. It's not a Kentucky problem or a Tennesee problem or a Minnesota problem: It is an American problem interwoven into the very fabric of our society. Electing a black president doesn't end the debate nor does it change that fact.

Kentucky's next head football coach (by the way) is an African-American and extremely popular at the moment. When Rich Brooks decides to hang it up in a year or two he'll be the only one in the SEC and one of a very few nationally.

Dean Smith retired from UNC in 1997. He signed Bob McAdoo in the late 1960's.

It's 40 years later. This McAdoo is HS recruit, not JuCo.

You should work for the Chamber of Commerce.

"If Aldrich had commited to the U Monson might still be the coach."

It seems safe to say that it has worked out great for both parties, Aldrich and the University of Minnesota basketball program. Cole is certainly an easy kid to root for. Old-school player.
