Dabo Swinney says the national title's value 'doesn't change' without the Big Ten, Pac-12

There will be no NCAA championships. The FBS national championship game isn't organized by the NCAA anyway so the cancellation doesn't directly impact it.
That is correct.

However, for what it’s worth, the CFP is owned and managed by the 10 FBS conferences, including those who’ve cancelled the fall season, and Notre Dame. Will be interesting to see how the voting goes, if it decides to forge ahead with the post-season as planned.

Not sure if Notre Dame has an equal vote or how that works, especially with them de facto joining he ACC this year.

Dabo...the name says it all.
Not even his name. What is all the hate about. He has done so many wonderful things for so many off the field. And by the time he is done he will go down as one of the best coaches ever.

Must be nice, playing that p___y ass ACC schedule and getting all those cheap wins.

The board of managers is made up of one president from each conference plus Notre Dame's president. I'd assume it would be a board vote but I guess they could potentially exclude Notre Dame just for this year even though they are on the board.

The Pac-12 and MAC votes were unanimous and the Big 10 president isn't from Nebraska or Iowa, so at least 3 of the 11 are against fall football. I haven't seen whether or not the Mountain West vote was unanimous but I would assume that their representative is against playing in the fall as well.

The other 7 are from conferences that are planning to play or are planning to play with a conference they're not in. If 2 of them are against fall football but not enough to shut down their team when the rest of the conference is playing, that could make the vote 6 to 5 against holding the CFP.

Voting could be interesting too, assuming they play it. How do they account for games that end up not being played due to illness or games where teams are missing a significant number of their starters? Usually a power 5 team that goes undefeated is nearly automatic but does that change with the shorter schedule, especially if some of their tougher games don't happen or are against a bunch of backups? And do teams get punished if they have a game cancelled because of illness within the team? I have a feeling that when in doubt they'll look towards Clemson, LSU, and Alabama but this season seems like the perfect opportunity to have a team with no business in the playoff getting in.

23-3 against ranked teams since 2015 ! That is incredible. Plus those National Titles. Better than nice !
They’re an elite team that pulls in 5* recruits. But it helps going 12-0 every year against one of the weakest P5 conferences.

If they were in the SEC (where they should be), no way they’d have had the run they’ve had.

I heard some media guy (might have been Chip Scoggins) talking about how this might lead to the P5 Conferences hiring a commissioner or coordinator - or at the very least agreeing to more cooperative efforts.

Not a good look when the most powerful conferences are going in their own direction or working at cross purposes.

Also made a good point - how is it possible that different conferences have different medical experts issuing different recommendations? that is a case where cooperation and communication might have prevented the current state of affairs.

Science and the south don’t mix. That’s how.

Why should they be in the SEC ? That 23-3 against ranked teams illustrates that they would do well anywhere. Who in the Big 10 gives them trouble, maybe OSU. Just do not believe in being negative about greatness. They have tremendous development and a giant passionate fan base. One of the best places a person can see a game.

Thats a horrible idea. This is the kind of ridiculous talk that comes up when a situation doesn’t play out like one wants it to. More voices is better, not worse. We’re here for entertainment, right? Are we not entertained?

This isn’t surprising at all. There is more hyperbole/panic/fear than facts at the moment and the science is totally unsettled. There are also mechanisms to reduce risk in an already low risk age group ...if people do what they’re supposed to do. That’s the wild card. Probably not a strong hand but we’ll see what happens.

Last line: LOL no. I have about 50 places on my list ahead of sweaty redneck-ville.

To each his own. I have been to every top 20 program venue and Clemson is incredible. Huge crowd, incredible tailgate, super nice folks, very diverse.

Right, exactly the same as all the top SEC programs, which is where they belong. (ps - LOL at “diverse”. You mean, whites and blacks. Fine. That’s diversity in American football)

The ACC is a basketball conference and also has a good number of great academic institutions. That’s not Clemson at all.

Sorry, he's a douche. Didn't say he does not win. How he wins, time will tell.

Clemson and to a lesser extent Auburn (SEC, I know), and a few other southern schools have become destination schools to wealthier mid-Atlantic and Midwest kids. Alabama flat out pays out of state kids for high SAT scores.

We just disagree. I like and respect him. My beliefs in many ways do not align with his but he lives them, treats people well and asks a great deal of those around him. What do you mean by "how he wins " my guess is you think he might be cheating. Not even a hint that he does not play it straight.

Just Dabo being a dumb southern hick.

Go read a book, other than the protestant bible.
Wait. We've already established you don't like Catholics. You don't like Protestants either???

I can't think of a time where I've been less entertained by college football (or sports in general).

Probably doesn't help that the Wild are eliminated already.

Well, we have some drama. I find the differing conference approaches entertaining in this ****show year. I don’t see spring ball happening so will follow whatever happens with the residual P5, assuming they even make it to a season before the internal strife, media carpet bombing, team outbreaks, parent tweets, political opportunists don’t derail it in the next month. Some people like local, state, national politics. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Now that’s not good for your heart.

Clemson and Auburn are ag schools. That’s why they were created, as land grants, like NDSU. Academically they’re on par with NDSU.

If having a top 15, southern football program is that important to your college experience, then by all means.

LOL. Now I know you're trolling. US News has Clemson tied with Minnesota ranked at #70. Auburn at #104.

FWIW, I think Dabo is right. I'll be jealously watching the SEC/ACC/Big12 all fall and probably even rooting for Trevor Lawrence and Clemson from afar. I might even load the RV up and head somewhere south for a game or two once it starts getting chilly. Texas or Oklahoma in November maybe?

Auburn is a good school. Draws a lot of well-qualified Atlanta HS kids.

Of course DaBOOO did. If he has as good a team as the last 5 years he will have the heads up chance at a pretend NC!

Hahahahahahaha US News. That’s a good one.

But what about “Bro that’s dank” Magazine’s rankings?
