per USA Today:

If the ACC, SEC and Big 12 carry on with college football this fall without the rest of the Power 5 conferences, the value of this season’s national championship won’t be undermined because “whoever wins it is gonna have to earn it,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said.

The Big Ten and Pac-12 announced Tuesday that they postponed fall football because of health risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, joining Group of Five conferences like the MAC and Mountain West, in addition to some independent schools. But the remaining major college football conferences are moving forward.

So, during a virtual press conference Wednesday, Clemson’s two-time national championship coach was asked if he believes the importance of the national championship will be damaged without the Big Ten and Pac-12.

“No,” Swinney said. “It is what it is.”

Go Gophers!!

and i'm pretty sure his bonus would be the exact same dollar amount. no one who's playing has any goal other than to win all their games. what a silly question.

Pains me as much as it does ... it has been over five years since either the Big 10 or PAC 12 have been represented in the National Championship Game.

Yeah, might seem like a small thing, but I think if both ACC and SEC went to 9 conference games, that might look a little different...SEC for sure, ACC is just not a real competitive conference lately.

Just Dabo being a dumb southern hick.

Go read a book, other than the protestant bible.

??? Cause he a southern Christian man? Dude speaking facts, he can’t help he has a leader in ACC commissioner and B1G doesn’t. If they play one of those conferences will be crowned a Natty. B1G and PAC12 completely messed it up

You're entitled to believe a false, wrong opinion, as the one bolded above is.

How is it false? Kevin Warren failed miserably in his first test! The conference is a mess without leadership we have coaches talking about when the league should start, title games, practices and when season will be over. B1G just released schedule with a lot of flexibility for certain issues to arise. Warren made our whole conference look like clowns.

Warren is merely a figurehead. The presidents made the decision, in consultation with medical experts, given the available data about player condition and knowledge of the disease.

The correct decision was made, and tremendous leadership was displayed.

That is the correct opinion.

That is the correct opinion.

The correct opinion is Warren is a horrible leader. Jim Delaney would have played this so much better and probably played. The reason why the conference and many teams are so split is because Warren cannot lead them.

SEC teams and ACC teams along with their commissioners are showing leadership and clearly know how to lead into the season.

now I’ll let you get back to Dr Fauci and Gates scheduled programming

Glad you agree that Warren didn't make a decision, the university presidents did.

So far, he has shown excellent poise and leadership.

I'm hopeful that your distaste for him has nothing to do with the color of his skin. But as we saw with president Obama, that sadly cannot always be counted on.

No problem with what Dabo said.

Pretty comfortable saying that if the ACC, Big XII, and the SEC (+ the American for good measure) are able to complete the season, there will be a College Football Playoff worth watching. The only school from the Big Ten/Pac 12 that I feel is getting totally screwed is Ohio State, because year in & year out they're right there, just a step behind Alabama & Clemson. Other than that. ... Alabama, Clemson, Big XII champ + probably a second SEC team ain't gonna' be chopped liver.

This is exactly where we're at in society now. ... the race card gets thrown out there whenever a minority is criticized or not liked by (presumably) a white guy. I'm a white dude, and there are a lot of white people I don't think particularly highly of, and there a lot of minorities I don't think particularly highly of. Does that make me a racist? I think I know which of you yahoos would answer yes!

And for the record, though I would have liked to see the Big Ten give it a shot, I respect the decision made by Kevin Warren, the presidents, and the Big Ten. Tough decisions are having to be made by all these conferences. I don't envy them.

Oregon and Washington have been pretty nationally competitive.

But how can we parse out when a white guy doesn't like a non-white leader genuinely only because of non-racist motivations, vs. when they just say it has nothing to do with racism but actually is at least partially motivated by it (perhaps at a subconscious level, due to many years of fearing non-whites)?

A philosophical debate for another thread, I'm afraid.

There will not be college football this fall. These conference will have to come clean about testing and player infections, etc... games will be canceled.
Agreed. Unfortunately they may start the season before the disaster happens.

wooh there big man....don't go and judge Dabo by calling him a dumb southern hick and kick him for reading the Bible. Highly doubt that he's dumb. And there's nothing wrong with reading the Bible. You are just one messed up person to berate someone like that no matter who it is. Jealousy and hatred man...wow.

So you bring a past president into this....? There's another message board for that.

Swinney has gone from incredibly likable to almost an automatic eyeroll every time he talks, but I don't know what else he's supposed to say in this spot, so if people are annoyed with what he said, they are being annoyed for the sake of being annoyed.

He'll look pretty silly when they don't end up finishing their season.

dude...I get it that you have your views on politics, etc...but damn you are showing your true colors. No one here has even mentioned race and you're throwing that card out there. POS. Wow.

I highly doubt there will be any kind of championship if they actually play and then finish all games.

I might be wrong and it is too late for me to look up but I believe the NCAA boss said there will be no national championship for the fall season.
That makes perfect sense.
I watch college football on Saturday from 11 to 11 and other times when games are on and attend in person but we are in the midst of the worst disruption of life in America sine WW2 and sports is not going to be an exception.
Those who feel a wrong decision was made by the BIG can piss and moan on sites like this but nothing is going to change and the odds are very high there will be no season after the first of the year.
That was thrown out to have an excuse to try keep the players who do not care to go to school from going home or transferring or just opting out.

There will be no NCAA championships. The FBS national championship game isn't organized by the NCAA anyway so the cancellation doesn't directly impact it.

I don't remember politics on this board hardly ever until this year.

Please post them on the correct board. Like you're favorite political site.

You answered yourself with the eye roll comment.

I agree, his persona has changed from the "confident and determined underdog" to the "self entitled, arrogate jerk"
