Going undefeated is impressive but acting like there is something magical about 16-0 is dumb because a 16 game schedule hasn't been a thing most years. In 5 of the 7 seasons since 2019 the National Champion has been undefeated.

2019 - LSU 15-0
2020 - Alabama 13-0
2022 - Georgia 15-0
2023 - Michigan 15-0
2025 - Inciana 16-0

It’s not just another OOC cupcake game. The extra game is an extra playoff game against a top 10 team. You can’t just assume all these teams would’ve automatically won another playoff round, except probably LSU. Just look what happens in the NFL.

It surely is in the eye of the beholder, but at minimum it's 1-3 games better than the others.

I find it impressive none the less, considering the last 4 opponents. Nobody else finished with fewer than 2 losses.

17-0 will be on the table shortly, as soon as next year.

Going undefeated is absolutely impressive and really hard to do. I just think the whole first 16-0 team since Yale thing is misleading since the ability to go 16-0 hasn't been a thing for a long time until last year.

The reality is that the team that wins the National Championship is usually going to be either undefeated or have like 1 loss.

Not trying to take anything away from the accomplishment of going undefeated....just pointing out that the attempt to make 16-0 seem like Indiana did something nobody else could for over 100 years is misleading since most teams during that time didn't play 16 games. Lots of teams have gone undefeated since Yale's 16-0 season they just didn't play 16 games.

Understood, but I think just about every college football fan realizes that the advent of even having a 16 game schedule (since 1900) is a recent invention.

Second. Yale was 16-0 under William Rhodes in 1894.

No disrespect to the Bulldogs, but 5 of the teams they beat were not even NCAA/Collegiate opponents against "Athletic Associations" and "Athletic Clubs".

They did go 5-0 against what would become Ivy League foes, including Brown twice and also had a win against Army.

Most impressive to me is that estimated over 20,000 attended both of the last 2 games against Harvard & Princeton.

Sure but this discussion stems from your post "Cignetti is the first coach ever to lead a team to a 16-0 season."

The actual statement should be - Cignetti is the first coach since the 2024 season to lead a team to a 16-0 season. Still impressive but more in context :)

I choose to give readers of Gopherhole the benefit of the doubt and assume they have intelligence to understand the context.

We need Throckmorton the 3rd to login with the Princeton stats. Miss that poster.
