Curt Cignetti

Yeah, there is this weird desire some have to make Cignetti out as some sort of miracle worker and acting like it has been business as usual at Indiana but he has managed to overcome that when no other coach has.

Cignetti is jerk but he is also clearly a really good coach and has surrounded himself with other really good coaches. That in combination with this current college landscape and a big influx of money into the football program to get players has allowed them to go out and assemble the roster they have which has them in position to do what would have seemed impossible a few short years ago.

He deserves a ton of credit for being able to identify the players he needed and then going out and getting them. They caught lightning in a bottle where everything has come together perfectly. But it also is highly likely that what Cignetti is doing at Indiana would not be happening if he had been hired there like 5 years ago under the old way of doing things.

He almost certainly would have been able to elevate Indiana to that same tier we live in which is below the Ohio State's of the world. But they wouldn't be doing what they are doing right now.
Agreed. Its a combo of everything lining up perfectly. And he gets credit for being the catalyst in making sure it did.

If your QB wins the Heisman Trophy and will be one of the first picks in the NFL draft, I suspect that your team had more talent on board than do my beloved Gophers.

That's a good point, and as with most things, I think the extremes end up being intellectual dishonest and the loudest voices in the room. If a program gets to a point where they are stagnating in "pretty good but not great, and no reason to think staying the course gets us over the hump," there is a decision point. That administrators at the point should judge any potential options with these two thoughts in mind: (1) the right guy could do for us what Cignetti did to Indiana and (2) its more likely the new hire will be a downgrade than will have us competing for titles. There is a legitimate risk reward analysis to be done there, which should consider exactly how things are going (stringing together 8-9 win regular seasons would be tougher to risk than consistently making bowl games with 6 or 7 wins) and how good you feel about the potential new shiny coach.
You just ask yourself "is the coach over or under-performing with his resources?" In this era, Minnesota needs to spend more money on NIL and keep key players.

Without them, PJ can only do so much in a perpetual arms race.

Incorrect. Miami offered more money, but Mendoza preferred the development path he saw at IU. He may also have been miffed that Miami wouldn't even take him as preferred walk-on out of high school.
Even if I take your word about Miami, you already gave the reason why that one specifically doesn't matter.

Point is, it had absolutely nothing to do with Cig somehow seeing something in Mendoza that no one else in the country knew was there.

Mendoza would've also won the Heisman at Miami or Georgia. Thanks Cuban!

The person who makes the claim is typically required to provide a link.

I don't care that you don't care. That's still the requirement.

I'll just take your word for it
Ok, deal. You post the proof of your claim that Cuban offered the most money and then I’ll get right on that Google search for you.

I am just excited for Indiana to win by 20 tonight and then someone to come tell me I thought they’d lose

I'm happy for Indiana and coach Cignetti. Congrats on a job well done!
I hope you go undefeated and win the Natty!

Big to win it when you have the chance

2019 gophers missed out. Needed to beat Iowa.
Wisconsin may lay down if game doesn’t matter.

I don’t think 2019 gophers were the best in the nation. I do think they’re as good as 2025 Indiana.
Gotta win when you have a chance

Props to Indiana for winning their window

I'm here to tell you you're an idiot.

I have watched the Hoosiers play 7 games in the Cignetti Era.

That brings the total number of times I have watched Indiana football ever (not counting games against Minnesota) to roughly 7 games.

I don’t believe you

Indiana Vs Penn state 2020 was electric

Nope. No recollection whatsoever.

Looking at Wiki, it was the season opener (season delayed and truncated due to COVID) so zero chance the Hoosiers were on my radar. Game was on October 24, I am sure I was golfing that day before the Gophers opened up against Michigan. First Big 10 game I was not able to attend at The Bank.

It was the game that Pennix was legit

Literally bamas coach is bamas coach because of that game (Indiana OC was K Deboer and then went to Washington with pennix)
