Curt Cignetti

So, coaching matters. That is the takeaway for IU….right. We all simply effed up not hiring him. This guy makes every single coach look like an effing check stealer.

You don’t know anymore that it was money related than I know it was related to get away from all of PJ’s nonsense. I guess that’s probably fair. What I will say is we’re part of the Big Ten conference which gets paid a gazillion dollars split equally amongst each school. We have plenty of GD money to pay assistant coaches.
I know they got paid more than they were making here. How much do we have? I’d love to know.

We have plenty of money but just choose to not have elite assistant coaches year after year. When has MN ever been near the top of the conference for paying a HC or for paying an assistant coach?

Am I missing something? Are we not getting an equal share of all that millions and billions of dollars of the Big Ten media money? I guarantee you if PJ went to Coyle and said I needed another 2 1/2 million in my assistance pool and borrow the way you give me another million on top of that he would. Our current staff from an experience perspective is equivalent to maybe a D2 squad.

I guess I’m missing something. I’m supposed to understand that we’ve just elected to not use a giant surplus of funds to hire elite head coaches and coaching staffs for my entire life?

Attn Red rider: this IU success is a full display that our beloved U is 2 yrs minimum from a being number one.

Historically in my lifetime too, which is quite a few decades, it’s almost impossible to hire worse athletic directors than we have which has polluted our athletic department for that whole time. Relative to assistant coaches right now we have funds aplenty to pay top-notch assistant coaches if we would choose to. We don’t. I think it’s chicken shit easy way to justify playing in the Rate bowl against New Mexico to blame lack of funds. We are one of the haves not to have nots.

Don't feed the trolls.
Hell, PJ had to overpay our current coordinators just to get them into some semblance of what a big 10 coordinator should make. It’s such a quaint story that one of them lived in a closet five years ago. But now he’s making 600-700 grand which is more than any other coach in America would come close to paying him.

Yup PJ, Coyle, and the U are just sitting on a pile of money that they could use for sports but choose not to. It's just sitting there.

For an assistant coaches pool, yes. They could pay a multiple of up to at least three for reputable coordinators compared to our guys without even feeling a pinch, but they have two guys like I said one just being out of living in a closet; both analysts five years ago. I almost want PJ to double their salary even though they don’t deserve it nor they qualified for it just to make all you guys feel better.

Not all programs are able or willing to reward to the same degree however.

Back of the napkin (ie totally made up) math says the increase in ticket sales and donations alone would vastly outpace the salary pool cost.

Of course they’re not going to do that with the previous guy.

Yes, they have millions just laying around for assistants. Money had nothing to do with Rossi and Hetherman walking. Totally could have kept them around and PJ said no, I want cheaper assistants. The current assitants worked their way up just like every other top assistant in the country did.

RTB and FAMILY I’m sure it gets old. PJ has been through 50 instances of turnover give or take in the time that he’s been here as he says his schtick is not for everybody. Money is not the issue. You’re either too ignorant or too stubborn to figure that out.

I hope so badly that IU loses to to the OU Bama winner! Will be cheering for that. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not actually going to tune into the game.)

Yup totally all that. The good assistants that left all got giant pay increases. We could have totally ponied up 2+ million per assistant to keep them though, but PJ said no and that he just wants to sit on that money. All that money just laying around and going to waste! Why don't we spend it? Hell we have so much money we could just hire Cignetti himself! Why not us?

Why are his assistants not being pulled away to HC jobs that are open ?

I am honestly asking as I have done no research.

Cig really lives rent free in your head.
Would be objectively great for the B1G if IU rolls the SEC opponent they get.
