Go Gophers!!
And the truth...Brilliant answer.
exactly, and they really benefitted from the earlier set ups where their hypothetical power always got them 5 or so teams preseason ranked in the top 10 and then with a light non conference schedule, their only losses are nearly guaranteed to be to other highly ranked teams - which doesn't hurt their rankings much and at the end of the season, with either committee or poll rankings they could always get through the regular season with a bunch of their teams ranked highly. So, "at large" bids are very important to them because they are sure to get lots of their teams considered that way.I love the model of 4-4-2-2-1-1 model especially with the play in games of 3v6 and 4v5 on championship weekend. Like he says tOSU was the 4th seed in the B1G due to tiebreakers.
People in the SEC are simply irrational. They want to make claims of who all the teams play in their one P5 non conference game, like Texas at tOSU and Alabama/Wisconsin. They leave out the part that it's their 9th P5 game and the B1G's 10th P5 game on a 12 game schedule.
I genuinely disagree with what the playoff is all about too.I love the model of 4-4-2-2-1-1 model especially with the play in games of 3v6 and 4v5 on championship weekend. Like he says tOSU was the 4th seed in the B1G due to tiebreakers.

Eleven B1G teams play 10 P4 teams. Four SEC teams play 10 P4 Teams. It's a great one liner although not entirely accurate. It is true that most SEC teams play 3 creampuffs but the majority also play at least one quality non-conf opponent.
Indiana's non-conf schedule is incredibly soft. Is what it is, as long as they don't complain when nobody takes them seriously until they actually beat a good team.
I like ours, 2 creampufs, one lower end power conference team.
And having to play another conference game means only one conference team will win that game, so the other team will have have another loss.Eleven B1G teams play 10 P4 teams. Four SEC teams play 10 P4 Teams.
"Yeah but playing Northwestern or Maryland is just like playing a non P4 team. While playing Kentucky or Mississippi St is like playing the 3rd best team in the Big Ten."Eleven B1G teams play 10 P4 teams. Four SEC teams play 10 P4 Teams.
This is exactly correct. With 9 conference games compared to 8. It means you have 9 teams with an extra loss guaranteed. When you compare a SEC three or four loss team the Big Ten teams are at a big time disadvantage. It is so much easier to be a three loss team when you only play 8 conference games so you will be rated higher. I love the idea of 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 championship weekend. Keeps more teams alive longer and makes an 18 team league possible without divisions. And having to play another conference game means only one conference team will win that game, so the other team will have have another loss.
i also like play in type weekend because it brings back the possibility of “co champions” which makes a conference title so much more likely for peopleThis is exactly correct. yes, that is more important and meaningful in an 18 team conference, and it reduces the need to say "yeah but this team got to avoid that team, etc. etc.i also like play in type weekend because it brings back the possibility of “co champions” which makes a conference title so much more likely for people
SEC should 100% be playing 9 conference games like the Big Ten.Eleven B1G teams play 10 P4 teams. Four SEC teams play 10 P4 Teams.
6 points for a loss to an SEC teamI have no idea how this would work and you have the issue where some teams do play well out of the blue. Perhaps the points could be adjusted as the season goes on. Might create more issues than its worth.
3 points for a conference win.
2 points for a good win over a decent opponent
1 point for a win over a crummy opponent.
1 point for a quality loss whatever that would be.
They wanted another home game and it was likely hard to find a quality program when they made the change.SEC should 100% be playing 9 conference games like the Big Ten.
I also don't fault Big Ten teams for not going after really tough non-conf games because a 9 game conf schedule is already very difficult.
That said, Indiana is going for the creamiest of creampuffs in their non-conf schedule to pad their record. And teams are certainly free to do that as long as they don't expect anyone to be impressed by them beating up on the little sister's of the poor when it comes time to look at post season matchups.
I should point out, it would be used as a guideline to allow some flexibility.I have no idea how this would work and you have the issue where some teams do play well out of the blue. Perhaps the points could be adjusted as the season goes on. Might create more issues than its worth.

Not a huge fan of his but that's a funny line to use...
